The President of Poland is talking to the US about having nukes stored in Poland. I assume this would be like Germany with joint control.

Why would they make this public?

Doesn’t the United Kingdom and France already have nuclear weapons, though?
Europe can decide that and leave us out of it.

(Rush, we're missing your take on all of this!)
To: Lurker
What message is that? That they are escalating the likelihood of nuclear exchange?
To: pierrem15
Sure why not, more nuclear weapons always calm things down.

“What message is that?”
That the Russians will find invading Poland again far too costly.

Right, and the fact that the nukes are ours increases the likelihood we get drawn into the exchange.
Mutually assured destruction is MAD.

Sorry but too late. We are in it.

We have a plan for dealing with that thug Putin who is so bad he made us shut down Europe to sanction him and now we need to ratchet it up so he understands just exactly how far we will go in destroying ourselves to support democratic freedom under Zelensky. It’s called deterrence
To: kosciusko51
Why would they make this public? Not much use in nukes as a deterrent if your enemy doesn't know you have them.

Excerpt:
"- The first problem is that we do not have nuclear weapons. There is no indication that we, as Poland, will have it in our hands in the near future. There is always a potential opportunity to participate in the Nuclear Sharing program. We spoke to American leaders about whether the United States was considering this possibility. The topic is open - said the president in an interview with "Gazeta Polska"."

Really - with dozens (as many as 50) already bunkered at Incirlik? Taking them out of unreliable Turkish territory is just prudent.
Tell the Poles to allow the protective lifts to be installed, then we'll talk.

This is Pax Americana under its nuclear umbrella. The reality is that Ukraine gave away its nuclear weapons in exchange for empty promises of peace from Russia. Now it fights a bloody war for its independence. One possible solution is for Poland and Ukraine to reform something like the old Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and claim nuclear status as a necessity due to Russian threats and aggression. Under the circumstances, who could blame them? History shows that depending on promises from the French, and now recently the Germans, is a foolish fantasy. Closer alliance between the nations threatened by Russia is the obvious solution. Belarus could join them after Lukashenko's regime falls.
