SEOUL, Oct 5 (Reuters) - South Korea and the U.S. military conducted rare missile drills and an American supercarrier repositioned east of North Korea after Pyongyang flew a missile over Japan, one of the allies' sharpest responses since 2017 to a North Korean weapon test.
Nuclear-armed North Korea test-fired an intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) farther than ever before on Tuesday, sending it soaring over Japan for the first time in five years and prompting a warning for residents there to take cover.
The White House National Security Council called North Korea's latest test "dangerous and reckless" and the U.S. military and its allies have stepped up displays of force. read more
South Korean and American troops fired a volley of missiles into the sea in response, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said on Wednesday, and the allies earlier staged a bombing drill with fighter jets in the Yellow Sea.
The USS Ronald Reagan, an American aircraft carrier that made its first stop in South Korea last month for the first time in years, will also return to the sea between Korea and Japan with its strike group of other warships. The South Korean military called it a "highly unusual" move designed to show the allies' resolve to respond to any threats from North Korea.
U.S. Indo-Pacfic Command did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

An excellent use of our missiles...
The interesting part of this to me is the reaction of Japan, supposedly the missile NK fired flew over Japan, I can’t imagine another powerful country willingly allowing a country to launch ballistic missiles over the country and not retaliating.
You would think Japan would warn NK to stop and if they didn’t begin to shoot the missiles down.
Odd that they would leave this out of the story. It was quite a blast.
Well this attempt to show North Korea sure didn’t go well.

South Korea missile crash during drill with U.S. panics wary city
A South Korean ballistic missile malfunctioned and crashed into the ground early Wednesday during a live-fire drill with the United States.
Were they sternly worded missile launches?
Japan should start their own nuclear weapons program.
As I understand it, one of Japan’s biggest issues is their demographics.
Low marriage, low birth rate. They need to quit eating all that soy.
Start giving dudes there TRT...
“Hans Brix....Oh No!”
It’s like a scene from ‘Space Balls’.
I can see your schwartz is bigger than mine.
LOL!
So, “we” fired some missiles into the sea....
...words just fail me.
It’s always good when the world’s rogue nations fear the President of the United States.Today, the only people on earth who fear the President are decent, law abiding US citizens.
...words just fail me.
They're just emulating their favorite congresscritter...
Very apt. 😉
Did we read just two days ago that our munitions supply is running low? Because Ukraine?
That’ll teach em....
It’s okay, we have tons of money, everything is great domestically, and there’s no logistical issues globally.
To be honest we haven’t depleted what we just shot into the Ocean, but it’s still stupid.
North Korea knows what we have vs what they have.
So basically we wasted some missiles. How much did those missiles cost?
We should have fired them over North Korea just to show that two can play that game. But with tapioca Joe in the WH I doubt that would have a good end result for us.
The utter stupidity and uselessness of the political class is astounding.
“They need to quit eating all that soy.”
Soy has nothing whatsoever to do with it . They’ve been eating soy-based foods for 1000 years . These days Japanese people eat much more meat than soy products .
