HERSHEY, Pa. — Republican U.S. Senate candidate Mehmet Oz and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Josh Shapiro appeared Monday at the 38th annual Pennsylvania Chamber Dinner in Hershey.
Oz and Shapiro had separate 30-minute conversations.
Advertisement Those conversations came after a discussion featuring former Democratic National Committeewoman Donna Brazile and former Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who talked about Pennsylvania's role in the nation's political environment.
During his discussion, Oz linked the issue of crime to economic viability in places like Philadelphia.
"You walk around places like Philadelphia, what they really need is a safe community that's not fraught with drugs at every corner, and economic viability. If we were to put a liquid natural gas facility somewhere in the southeast part of the state it would create immense opportunity," Oz said.
Shapiro used his time on stage to talk about reducing regulation, and cutting corporate taxes.
"We need to show we're open for business. We need to show that we're going to be aggressive in helping businesses that are here, and recruiting new ones to come to Pennsylvania. We need to show it on both sides, reducing our taxes and investing in our workforce," Shapiro said.
Two people were invited but did not show were Democrat and U.S. Senate candidate John Fetterman and Republican State Senator Doug Mastriano, who is running for Governor.

Doug needs to get out there. He will lose if he doesn’t start campaigning. He should follow Oz around. Oz seems to be doing the job. and getting noticed.
Doug has been traveling the state non-stop all summer in his bus making appearances every day. I follow his schedule.
