About miscalculating with Hitler, no need to say “if.” We miscalculated and we wound up in a war. By “we,” I mean France and England. You agree with this, correct? We miscalculated by appeasing Hitler and wound up in a war? We should have stood up to Hitler?
Is Putin a scarier bastard that Hitler? Let me put it this way: what if Osama bin Laden had a nuke? What if Kim jung-un? O.K., that bastard has some. What if he had more? What if Hitler hadn’t scared John von Neumann and a half dozen other geniuses to the U.S. and he, and not us, developed the atomic bomb?

I’m sorry if I sounded like I was critical of Switzerland. It is a special place in many ways. Even unique. And, it serves the world well as a neutral country.
It didn't have a fallout shelter. It had a blast shelter capable of surviving a Hiroshima-sized blast 300m away.
It is like the Sudetenland. Only everyone has it backwards. A nazi army from Ukraine was moving into eastern Ukraine. They were stopped by patriots who opted out of the Kiev coup. Now Russia called their bluff like the Euros should have with Hitler.
The Switz have a “honeycomb” defense. Every man of military is a member of the militia. There are uniformed men with their FNs or some other fine individual weapon always going about. Every home has these weapons and their ammunition. There is nobody with the authority to surrender. You’d have to defeat every valley of Switzerland. Neat and orderly. Electric fences are placed on yards so one or two sheep can graze for a day, or a cow. On a rail excursion - just gorgeous - I only saw one wall with graffiti. I was embarrassed as, I thought, that could have been done by an American. Something like this militia approach is being adopted by Poland and other front line countries based on the success of the Territorial Defense Force in Ukraine. Let us, the people, take ownership and responsibility for our country.
Yup! The plant manager was a Major, we got a pretty good tour. Especially after I made note of dragon’s teeth at the choke points of every valley floor, and observed that the charming little chalet directly in front of us after rounding a blind turn on a mountain road looked like a pillbox with fancy faux windows...

Or maybe we have it dead to rights and an attack sub waiting the order to zap it. When my Granddad was a submariner during WWII, Congressman Andrew Jackson May (D-Kentucky) told the papers after a classified Pentagon briefing that the Japanese were setting their depth charges too shallow, and not to worry about our boys in the submarine service. Well, the Japanese read the papers too, and at least 10 US submarines with all their crew died because of Congressman May’s big, fat mouth. My Granddad was almost one of them. The less I know about submarine ops, the better.
Oh yes, almost forgot. Congressman Andrew Jackson May (D-Kentucky) did Federal time after the war, for bribery related to war contracts. He never did one f***ing second of time for the murder of over 800 American sailors.
