Known by his friends as the “Zombie Hunter,” Bryan Patrick Miller, 46, began his death penalty trial on October 14, 2019, in Phoenix, Ariz. Charged with the 1992 and 1993 murders of Angela Brosso and Melanie Bernas, investigators wonder if there could there be more victims.

Miller was arrested at his North Phoenix home on January 13, 2015, ending a search for a killer that haunted the Valley for more than two decades.

The really weird thing about this guy is that he is a Mennonite.

So yes, this perp truly is Amish.

[snip] Earlier this year, authorities arrested Bryan Patrick Miller for the murders of Brosso, who was 22 when she was killed, and Melanie Bernas, only 17.

Brosso went out for a bicycle ride in late 1992. Her torso was found later near 25th Avenue and Cactus Road. Her head was discovered in the Arizona Canal...

Bernas’s body was found in a canal about a year after Brosso’s murder. [/snip]

[snip] Neither of the women’s bikes - Brosso’s purple, 21-speed Diamondback nor Bernas’s green SPC Hardrock Sport - has ever been found, suggesting the killer may have kept them as trophies. Pictured: An officer taking a closer look at a bike found in Miller’s shed in North Mountain Park. [/snip]

[snip] Meanwhile, the Associated Press is reporting that Melissa Ruiz-Ramirez was out walking in Everett, Washington, on May 23, 2002, when she accepted a ride from a man whom she recognized from a friend’s apartment complex — and later identified as Miller.

During the car ride, the pair talked about how some of the trails and pathways near that complex were dangerous. The man then took her to his work and stabbed her in the back with a 12-inch serrated knife, the AP reported.

Miller was arrested in the attack but acquitted after claiming the woman tried to rob him. He moved back to Arizona shortly afterward and quietly resumed his life before being arrested this week, AP wrote, adding that the Washington state case didn’t require him to submit a DNA sample because he was exonerated.

AP also noted that in high school, Miller randomly stabbed a woman at a Phoenix mall but only served time until age 18. [/snip]

[snip] ...according to AZCentral, police are investigating a 3rd victim, Brandy Lynn Myers. That would (allegedly) make Miller a serial killer...

Charley Project mentions a possible link to another 1992 victim, Shannon Aumock. Shannon’s body had been found in a North Phoenix desert area, buried as a Jane Doe and identified in 2011. [/snip]

Yeah. I know. Kind of pathetic.

“The trial delays result from a combination of factors: COVID, suspect mental evaluations, dozens of witness interviews and a slow-moving justice system. “That’s got to be incredibly frustrating for family members, and I’ve talked to them myself over the years. The wait for justice, but the reality is that every case is different,” said Rachel Mitchell, Maricopa County Attorney.

The trial is set to begin on October 3, and there will be no jury. Instead, it is set to be a bench trial, where the judge will decide guilt or innocence. But legal wrangling is still taking place. During the last pre-trial hearing, defense attorneys stated they will argue that Miller is not guilty by reason of insanity.

When asked if she would oppose any additional delay, Mitchell said it was not her decision to make. “It’s not up to me to decide whether a delay or continuance is accepted or not. It’s up to the judge. My attorneys are extremely experienced. This is a very important case. This is a death penalty. And if they feel like the continuance is warranted, then they may go along with it. If they feel like it is not warranted, then they will oppose,” said Mitchell”.

It’ll be a circumstantial case, even if the bike can be positively ID’ed. So, they’re being very careful to build it.

Trial of serial killer and his victims?

Who teaches these people how to write? The victims are not on trial, as the sentence implies.

Bryan Patrick Miller, 46, ... Charged with the 1992 and 1993 murders of Angela Brosso and Melanie Bernas,

1992 was 30 years ago. He was a 16 year old serial killer?
