DeSantis’s migrant flights could cost him Latino support at home

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s (R) policy of shipping migrants from the border to left-leaning jurisdictions has been a winner in the GOP — but it could cost him at home with key Latino constituencies.

The push by GOP governors to transport migrants from border states comes amid a surge in migration from Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua, a trio of Latin American countries with left-leaning authoritarian leaders.

Naturalized citizens of Latino descent are very much in favor of any and all means of relocating illegal immigrants outside of Florida. The illegals compete DIRECTLY with the Latino citizeny that may legally vote, and as illegal immigrants are not supposed to have the voting franchise, their opinion does not count in any actual poll.

Sure, compassion enters into the equation, but personal security is a much larger factor.

Hard to believe that any Floridian would want the illegal aliens disrupting their local economy and swamping their law enforcement resources.

Maybe, but I’m not sure that’s how the Venezuelans in FL view the refugees from Maduro that DeSantis shipped out from TX.

Good analysis. It’s a shame the ‘journalists’ at “The Hill” don’t pause a bit to consider their argument before they post. It’s long been considered a truism, for instance, that the political views of Cuban-Americans are not the same as those from Puerto Rico. Yet The Hill is back to treating the Latino-vote as monolithic in it’s viewpoint on immigration.

I would be upset too, I mean he gave illegals priority in evacuating ahead of the storm.

...a surge in migration from Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua, a trio of Latin American countries with left-leaning authoritarian leaders.

Even when pitching manure-level propaganda, the MSM can’t bring themselves to label the governments of Venezuela and Cuba as anything more than “left leaning”. Not far left, not communist, not marxist; just “left leaning”.

This is another example of “modern journalism” provided by an “objective, reputable source” ... as those terms have be redefined in “modern America”.

I bet it gained him more support from American citizens of “Latin” ancestry (isn’t DeSantis a Latino?) than he lost. Illegal immigration activists aren’t going to vote for DeSantis no matter what he does. It takes effort to protray giving people free air plane rides to a luxury resort as an act of cruelty. If the Martha’s Vineyard crowd were not such total shits, they would have given the arrivals JOBS.

DeSantis as a name would be mostly Italian.

Ron DeSantis is 100% Italian.

DeSantis’s migrant flights could cost him Latino support at home

Florida latinos who are not racists; possess critical thinking skill; and desire law and order, will vote for DeSantis. Racist gimme dat latinos who love socialism, are ok with lawlessness and embrace the AOC political view, will vote democrat.

Bottom line: DeSantis’s migrant flights will not move latinos to change their current position or their vote.

It’s possible I suppose, but it’s also possible that he will get a lot more support from Hispanics who entered the country legally.

My Puerto Rican neighbor directly across the street, a 39 year military veteran, retired Command Sergeant Major, is more Conservative than anyone I have ever heard of.

It is a myth that Puerto Ricans always vote Democrat.

Not to disparage Cubans, my Superintendent in the Air Force made Chief Master Sergeant and he was a fine and upstanding gentleman.
