Navy Petty Officer Second Class Kristin Fregeau is being discharged from the Navy for attempted desertion, but her attorney contends that this is a cover for separating the officer because she had a religious objection to the vaccine mandate.
“The Navy couldn’t separate [Fregeau] for vaccine refusal, so they drummed up a story about attempted desertion,” Sean Timmons, Freugeau’s attorney, told The Epoch Times.
The attempted desertion charge arose from Fregeau leaving her base for 20 days in December 2021 without prior approval.
But Timmons said the petty officer moved to Tennessee during that period to remove her child from moldy living conditions at the base that was harmful to their health.
“She moved her family under duress, and out of necessity, away from mold-infested government quarters to move her children to reasonable living accommodations,” the attorney said.

There is so much to turn a young man away from our armed forces now. The woke propaganda classes are over-the-top and continuous. The female troops pushed into combat arms takes a fun male comradery away for no military rhyme or reason. And then there are the vaccine mandates. We always had to get our shots but now they push a dangerous shot that has little claimed benefit for that age group and has growing side effect alarms.
Uh, “PETTY OFFICER”. I guess someone might say “ officer” but enlisted E-5 is not an “officer”. Epochtimes should know better. 🤔✌
Petty Officers are enlisted, not officers.
When they get the basics wrong, I don’t think anything else matters.
Hey, the word Officer is in her rank, so she’s an officer. Just like a Master Gunnery Sgt is your master.

Probably not a popular opinion but from the facts that were laid out in the article I fail to see how any of this has to do with her stance on the vaccine. The facts are clear, she left the base for 20 days without getting approval to do so, that is desertion. Her reasons for it don’t matter, she had the option of going through channels and decided not to do so because she didn’t want the hassle. This is someone who doesn’t belong in the armed forces and it’s really that simple. Her stance on the vax is immaterial and is just being used as a hail mary by her defense.
Is she an Officer of Sailors like that guy in the Camp Lejeune commercial who is an “Officer of Marines”?

Sorry guys, but "petty officer" is a specific Navy form of address for enlisted in pay grades E-4 to E-6. E-7 to E-9 are Chief Petty Officers addressed as Chief, Master Chief or Senior Chief.
Is 20 days desertion? Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought 30 days or more was desertion. Less than 30 days is AWOL.

I don’t know how long of AWOL before it establishes motive to become desertion.
I’m not even sure if desertion is only a thing in times of declared war or conflict.
