PORTLAND, Maine — In the summer of 2010, former President George H.W. Bush sat down at his home in Kennebunkport and jotted a quick note to a young woman who had come to Maine for a work project.

“Dear Taylor,” he wrote. “There are a lot of family fans of yours here at our lovely place by the sea. Please come over tomorrow afternoon for a swim and relaxation by our pool. I believe in long shots, so I hope this one works out.”

The invitation was accepted, and the next day Taylor Swift came by with several of her associates.

She “signed photos and hugged everyone she met like old friends. When she came back later that summer to debut her ‘Mine’ music video on the grounds of St. Ann’s Church, her first invite to come watch the debut was to her new friend, George Bush 41.”

Yup. He was not well towards the end of his second term.

I loved the guy, but as we grow older and gain experience, we learn that the decline of elders can come pretty quickly.

I reserve "handsy-grabby" for things like pawing nurses and cackling about "David Cop-a-feel," not for consensual relationships.

Also, Hillary Clinton was so quick to jump on that "Jennifer" story that I wonder if it was real or just something to Democrats made up to counter the rumors about Bill Clinton.

Like Bush the Democrats lied through their teeth promising to fund Reagan...nice try though. Oh wait! That was what Bush called Voo Doo economics. The economic system he rode for 4 years. Then like magic (Voo Doo) he found out there was a deficit he didn't know about until AFTER he was elected...by lying through his teeth.

Sandra Day O'Conner? Really? I'm trying real hard to think of the negative impact she made on my life.

Maybe you, pretending to know, can enlighten me.

Which is why when you turn 70, you shouldn't be President. (and yes that includes Trump)
Hopefully you, or anyone with your biased attitude, never will be at any age.

Bush wasn’t Reagan’s choice.
Presidents don’t choose their running mate. The party does...Speaking of big mistakes.

“GHWB was a Kennebunkport liberal disguised as a Republican”

Northeast liberals have always been the core group of the GOP establishment. Goldwater, Reagan and Trump were outsiders.

The great shame is that Reagan didn’t dump GHWB in 1984 and make his pal Paul Laxalt VP.

“he had a front row seat to how Eisenhower and the Establishment went against Goldwater in 64”

Eisenhower supported Goldwater in the 1964 election.

Nelson Rockefeller and other prominent Republicans didn’t. Some openly backed LBJ.

With what we know, I would have voted for Reagan in '80. But would vote for a replacement in '84.
