By the end of the trip, the F-150 Lightning only had 50 miles of range remaining despite taking a 64-mile trip and being charged with 200 miles worth of energy in the battery. That’s an extra depletion of 86 miles.

Guy was towing 3,500 lbs in rain. My Solitude trailer weighs about 11,000 empty.

I'm leaning toward the idea that hybrids make more sense for pickups than full electric. But then the Lightning probably really isn't made for truck-style work and towing, but for soccer dads in suburbia picking up a few bags of mulch.

Electric is not good for “work”....towing, hauling, off-road.

You will see “work” trucks use hydrogen.

Light duty pickups that sometimes tow or haul will be hybrids.

Until they come up with a way to charge electrics in a time-frame commensurate with filling up a gas/diesel tank, you are right on.

I think EVs have their place (horses for courses). Before we retired the wife and I lived in downtown Atlanta, each drove about 20-25 miles per day, a couple of EVs would have been nice (if we could have afforded them). I wouldn’t have used them for long trips or hauling/towing but in an urban area I can see where they would be ok.

“You will see “work” trucks use hydrogen.”

Oh yea. Let’s load up a work truck with 3,500 pounds of stuff and use an incredibly flammable gas that burns invisibly to power it. And do let us know when you solve that pesky embrittlement problem.

Then there’s the infrastructure problem. How do you safely stored transport, and deliver hundreds of millions of cubic feet of the stuff to all 50 States?

Hydrogen is a fantasy. We have a hundreds of years worth of hydrocarbon based fuel stock here in America. The technology is mature and the infrastructure is in place.

Trying to replace that is a fools errand.

You are incorrect, mostly because you are thinking inside the pressurized cylinder.

Any idea how far away hydrogen use might be? I’ve been hearing about it for quite a while.

And the energy storage density of batteries improves by 13X...which will never happen.

What’s the thermal energy in BTUs compared to a comparable amount of gasoline?

You are not well informed.

We have been powering vehicles with CNG and LNG for decades safely.

Secondly, hydrogen generators have been in use for various industrial activities for over a decade. Their use is expanding as more and more forklifts, mine trucks, etc are all using hydrogen.

Hydrogen is far smarter than electric. Neither is as efficient as ICE, but we really do not have a say in this.

CNG and LNG are not hydrogen. They contain hydrogen, of course. But they aren’t pure hydrogen.

Every time i’ve been in a dealer looking or for service in the past 10 years I’ve asked when they would have a diesel-hybrid pickup available.

At first I would just get perplexed looks, then as the years went on I would get a “we’ve asked”.

Finally I was at a Toyota right before Covid and they said they had something in the works....haven’t heard anything yet though...

Speaking of electric Fords have they sold any electric Mach 1
Mustangs? I haven’t seen one. As the owner of a REAL MACH 1 I
am embarrassed.

every car guy who watches Youtube know the TOP 3 channels on cars:

1) Scotty Kilmer (most views all time and hates Biden)
2) Hoovie’s garage
3) car Wizard (also in the same video)—2 and 3 are in Kansas.

I bought from Hoovie’s ths year when he sold 50 of his cars to the public. Great guy and a solid patriot. Been tinkering with cars since he was 10 years old so he knows what he’s saying.
