Vladimir Putin will formally annex occupied regions of Ukraine to Russian in a major speech tomorrow, the Kremlin has confirmed, as he attempts to regain the initiative after his forces suffered a humiliating rout earlier this month.
Putin's speech comes after Russian-backed proxy governments in Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions held sham referendums earlier this week on whether to go ahead with the move.
Armed Russian soldiers taking ballot boxes door-to-door left the results in no doubt, and Ukraine along with its Western allies have vowed not to recognise the results.
But it still marks a turning point in the war because it will allow PUTIN TO SPIN THE LIE to his own people that any attack on those regions is an attack on Russia itself - paving the way for him to escalate, possibly as far as using nukes.
Ukraine has vowed to defy that threat is continuing to attack into those regions today, with a key town in Donetsk now all-but surrounded.
Lyman, which sits close to the Donets river, is being flanked from northwest and southeast, with Kyiv's troops having cut off all escape routes bar one.
Putin's forces are facing 'imminent defeat' in the town which is a key supply hub for troops in the region.
Taking the town would clear the way for Ukraine to attack into neighbouring Luhansk province - which is almost completely under Russian control.
Putin maintains that the ultimate goal of his 'special military operation' is the liberation of both Donetsk and Luhansk, and defeats there would make it impossible to spin the war as a success.
It comes off the back of a devastating Ukrainian counter-attack east out of Kharkiv earlier this month that returned thousands of square miles to Kyiv's control and buckled Russia's frontline.

I would not say those that support Putin are not Pro American.
I would say they are short sighted.
It will cost less now in human lives & treasure than when Putin continues in his pattern of “Transnistrian” policy of controls ‘zones’ of frozen conflicts in Moldova (Transnistria region), Georgia (Abkhazia and South Ossetia), and in Ukraine annexed Crimean peninsula and now the Donbas!
Russia uses this wider pattern of created separatist conflicts to create corruption and criminality as ‘Trojan horses’ to block progress in reform-minded periphery countries. This is the Russian tactics part of their geopolitical strategy to create ‘conflict zones’ to prevent countries from entering NATO and integrating into the European Union.
CONFLICTS in these nations by Putin is being part of Russia imperialistic plan to regain strategic points of its LOST EMPIRE.

I could care less about that region. Its always been a focus of contention and the best thing is to let them fight it out till they have had enough of it.

That is ONE country, Bosnia-Herzogovina (B-H), not two (so it is not at all surprising you would exaggerate and claim they were TWO countries, as you alluded to in your earlier post).
Even at that, the “recognition” is from one politician, who represents the minority Serbs in B-HH; it is not recognition by B-H. It is no different from a member of the Ukrainian Parliament (Rada) from, say, Kharkiv saying he recognizes Serbia annexing a part of B-H. So what? That representative cannot speak for the Ukrainian government.
You are grasping at straws to find support for the illegal annexation of eastern Ukraine by Russia, a country you wholeheartedly seem to support.

Wait, you’re saying that “you ppl” supported Putin then and now in Syria, but oppose him now in Ukraine? How do you reconcile that? BTW: I opposed the US getting involved in the Syrian civil war, which was ordered by Obama. I did not support US involvement in the Libyan civil war (which was also initiated by Obama); nor in the Balkans in the 1990s (which was initiated by BJ Clinton).
And, as I’ve said so many times here on FR, I support the Ukrainian PEOPLE, who are defending themselves against an existential threat started by the unwarranted and unjustified invasion by a larger and stronger neighbor. Who the Ukrainian president is, is immaterial to me; Ukraine’s president could be a shoe box for all I care.

As to political parties, the Uniparty has run all these wars. Clinton and Obama could not have done anything without Congressional approval.

Well the annexation is a done deal now. As well any further negotiations about them. They’re now Russia.
But of course political leaders and media will be peevd over this but nothing they can actually do about it.
