As much as said at least at this point the rumor that a hundred are dead is to this point unsubstantiated.
Unbelievable to me that a local official would at this point make that statement.

I don’t think they know the casualties and the statement that hundreds are dead came from the one sheriff in Lee County?

The left is praying there will be lots of bodies in FL and that Ian will hit Georgia hard, also resulting in many deaths.

DeSantis mentioned evacuations in Seminole county due to flooding. I lived in that area for 25 years and never saw an evacuation there.
In response to the first question he stated that the “hundreds of deaths” information is not confirmed and may be an incorrect assumption based on reports of rminundation and rising water levels in residential homes forcing fearful residents to climb to higher floors, scary enough, or (One Guy guessing here?) onto roofs in the darkness, calling 911 and requiring rescue (sounds similar to Katrina rescues in NOLA).

Saw some jackass on TV TikTok paddle boarding around his living room. When the walls fall in don't call the rescue squad. Often enough those killed are dopers who go out surfing to catch a big wave. Stupid games, stupid prizes.
I remember one time some idiot tried to beat the draw bridge at Cocoa Beach. He didn't make it across. When they pulled him out of the water they asked "Why?" He told rescuers that he was in a hurry to "catch the big waves".
Yeah when he mentioned rooftop rescues, mini Katrina was my fist thought. I did some work down in that area once and it’s mostly retirees. I’m sure some lacked the physical ability to climb up on a roof and they didn’t get a whole lot of notice to leave because for days, it was supposed to hit further North in the Tampa area.
Obviously Ian didn't get the memo.

If they chose not to evacuate there were safe shelters open.
