Hurricane Ian "Fatalities in the hundreds" according to Lee County Sherriff Carmine Marceno
It just doesn’t look that bad to me. The choppers usually show major roofing losses, collapsed buildings, blown out windows, stripped siding, broken branches, snapped/uprooted trees. I’m having a hard time seeing 150 mile an hour wind damage.
I do see storm surge flooding which is the cause of most death.
Yep the construction will be done while the vehicles
come and go. That will be interesting to see.
Now if the floating bridge spans the channel then ship traffic
will have to cease. Just a guess on my part. Be interesting
to see how they do the rebuild.

Aftermath of Hurricane Ian - Massive destruction in Times Square, Ft. Myers Beach
“The old joke about St. Petersburg is that it is “God’s waiting room”—probably applies to a lot of cities and towns in the area.”
I’m at a town on the Texas coast that gets lots of “Winter Texans” each year. Along with the RV Parks and handicap parking spaces filling up, I can also tell they are here by the ambulance siren every morning about 6AM-7AM when someone does not wake up.
Most weeks might hear the siren once or twice a week, in the winter it is almost daily.
They just showed what used to be the road to the bridge on The Weather Channel. Most of the asphalt was washed away.
I miss the taglinus FReerepublicus threads.
County government office Open ⋅ Closes 5:30PM Lee County makes over 17 million dollars a year off this $6 bridge toll going to Sanibel Island.. We went once but did not find the beaches any better than Ft. Myers or Naples. Also parking at any public beach on the Island is $5 per hour …
I figured why bother, I have no doubt that it did
And the 87,000 new IRS employees.
Pretty common. Once the surge gets under the road and washes out underneath its history.
Gov. DeSantis: 2 ‘unconfirmed’ deaths after Ian; catastrophic damage left in storms wake
I would guess the real number will be between those two statements.
Right. Remember the Katrina hoopla about Bush not sending in FEMA soon enough? FEMA was already staged and ready to respond. That was the failure of the LA governor NOT making the official request for FEMA early on, even though Bush asked her to make the request more than once before Karina hit. We all know who got the blame.
Hindus and Buddhists will be p!ssed. So much for celebrating diversity.
Bo and Luke Duke with General Lee, no problem.
Normal people, not so fast.
DeSantis clarified the sheriff’s statements during his morning news conference.
“That number that was put out by Lee is basically an estimate of, ‘hey, these people were calling, the water was rising on their home, they might have not ended up getting through,’” DeSantis said. “So we’re obviously hoping that they can be rescued at this point.”
Don Lemon had his climate-change-republicans-fault harangue ready to go. He will probably use it anyway, but he really wanted to include “hundreds of fatalities.” Low number of deaths is a big disappointment for the left.
Port Charlotte got a what one what 20 years ago or so”
