Column: Rural climate skeptics are costing us time and money. Do we keep indulging them?
The Los Angeles Times ^ | September 27, 2022 | BY ERIKA D. SMITH, ANITA CHABRIA

GREENVILLE, Calif. — Looking back, Bradley Bentz doesn’t know what took him so long to move out of Los Angeles County.

For decades, he’d lived a short walk from the Santa Anita Park racetrack and a few minutes drive to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. It was the typical city life.

“The cars and the smog. The noise. The lights that you can’t even tell when it’s dark,” Bentz said, shaking his head as if waking up from a nightmare. “I just couldn’t do it.”

So he headed to the sparsely populated mountains of Plumas County. He joined the U.S. Forest Service, started a family and eventually settled down just outside of Greenville, becoming the second-generation owner of his father-in-law’s business, Riley’s Jerky.

This is the part of the state where climate change has become a full-fledged existential threat. Sure, Southern California is prone to its fair share of disasters, but it is in Northern California where catastrophic wildfires aren’t just likely but are certain to destroy remote small towns for decades to come.

Greenville, which burned down in last year’s Dixie fire, should serve as a potent reminder of this risk. But maddeningly, the people who love living in these rural wildlands don’t see it that way. Instead, they look at it as just one more challenge to overcome, like spotty cellphone service and far-off grocery stores and hospitals.

It’s a belief so widespread, so divorced from the terrifying reality of climate change, that the rest of us in California can’t keep ignoring it. Doing so is simply costing too many lives and too much money, and wasting too much time. Soon, living in rural Northern California won’t be as safe, as sustainable or even as beautiful as it once was. The Dixie fire was just the beginning.

“Climate Change” beliefs are NO SUBSTITUTE for appropriate and timely forestry management practices. NEVER HAVE BEEN...

Nope- they need to jump off a bridge.

The few times I’ve gotten into it with climate nuts i ask them the same question- why haven’t you jumped off a bridge yet??

Their response is always “huh?”

I then inform them that every day they live and breathe they are doing more harm to the earth they claim to love. If they really want to save the planet then jump off a bridge and become part of the solution rather than remaining part of the problem.

The “holy crap- he’s right!!” look on their face is priceless.

Oh, brother. There can't possibly be any other explanation for destructive forest fires than "climate change."

The monomania of these people is off the charts.

It is totally impossible to power modern industrial nations with "green" energy sources because they are just too diffuse. If you do go "green," you are only trading off one type of "pollution" (CO2) for many others - staggering volumes of toxic wastes, huge mines, blighted landscapes.

More and more scientists are finally coming out and saying that CO2 is NOT the cause of the slight warming that we've experienced.

It is a multi trillion dollar hoax. The only reasons it is being pursued is to enrich certain favored classes and to kill the rational-thinking, mobile, freedom-loving middle class.

Yep. We can get along fine without chips and code. Let’s see them get along without food, fuel, water, power, and sewage management.

. He joined the U.S. Forest Service

//

Oh for Pete’s sake,,,,

It’s not the freaking military, it’s the Department of Agriculture

And NO ONE “ joins “ it ,,

one gets hired like any other job.

( I was U.S.F.S. 3 yrs, BLM 3 yrs )

/\

This us it exactly
\/

The enviros won’t let the proper forestry be done to mitigate these fires by clearing the underbrush and, yes, harvesting timber. The enviros are responsible for the climate on the ground that is fueling these huge fires.

/\

That plus Marxists infiltrating the usfs and blm and doing the endangered species suit tango with environatzies for the last 30 years.

This article is pure crap.

Bad forest policy is leaving too many old growth trees standing that are susceptible to fire and leaving lots of brush and other materials that can quickly combust. Of course that explanation won’t fit well the climate change excuse. Every forestry expert knows California has some of the worst forest managagement in the country.

There are developers who want to recreate urban slums in currently-peaceful country areas.

Demonizing the residents of currently-peaceful country areas is a part of that.

Movies with the plot below are a part of that demonizing:

A White woman leaves her peaceful safe big city and takes a drive through sprawling country and is instantly attacked by Whites.

More of the reporter’s Antifa buddies coming to start fires this summer?
/\

Media burried the arson fact in my area for 2 years about 1 particular fire in cottonwood.

Arson has been the leading cause of fires in my area of northern Calif since 2017.

This climate change causing all our fires scam is just that.

Spit.

I love trees
I hate commies

These nutcases are being misled by the charlatans at the UN.

CO2 is what plants breathe. In order to re-green the earth, increase vegetation, reduce local temperatures, restore the arid soils, CO2 needs to increase.

Those buying electric vehicles are unwittingly killing the earth, which will result in famine, killing millions due to hunger (famine).

IF you anyone wishes to stay in the filthy hell-hole that Los Angeles has become-—you can...WE DO NOT WANT YOU NEAR US IN OUR RURAL HAVENS. YOUR STANDARDS HAVE VANISHED———

However-— dealing with massive homeless issues—to say nothing of the lack of sanitation involved with them-—the CRIME-—the LACK of prosecution of CRIME-—the politicians who have more than a double standard for living conditions-—THAT CHOICE IS YOURS-—ENJOY !!!!!

BUT NOT OURS.

I have lived rural for over 29 years since leaving the San Fernando Valley in May 1993. I NO LONGER FELT SAFE IN MY OWN HOME. Left within 5 days to my other property in N Calif-—after 29 years in Los Angeles. Packed & gone. Left behind 17 of 19 accounting clients...and survived.

I can actually SEE the stars at night...

I can HEAR an Owl...Or a Dove.....OR a Raven....

OR the neighbor’s chickens-—and HE gives me fresh eggs. His goats are fun to hear, also.

I can hear the coyotes at night & see them in the daytime...
AND SHOOT AT THEM TO PROTECT MY LIVESTOCK.....

All our dogs are ranch dogs-—and THEY KNOW THEIR JOBS....& THEIR TERRITORY.

I can TALK to my neighbors-—but I cannot SEE them pour their breakfast cereal or fry their bacon. IF anyone hasn’t been seen in 24 hours-—we CHECK ON THEM......

We meet at the cluster mailbox & make sure everyone is OK.

Need help changing your alternator? Help is right down the street.

I bought over 5 acres with house , well, septic & power with CASH after selling out in N Calif.—after 12 years there—40 total in Calif. NO MORTGAGE HERE AT ALL.

Car registrations lower-—

GASOLINE LOWER....

Property taxes MUCH LOWER——

Vehicles in driveway are not locked-—but keys are in house.

Garage had lock issues —SAND IN LOCKS—until a year ago or so when neighbor installed DEAD BOLT.

Can easily own a freezer or 2 to hold food & that means there are NOT sudden trips ‘to the store’ when I get a whim over something to eat.

2 freezers—2 refrig/freezers & all other usual appliances-—and power bills are under $100 a month.

IT means we figure out ahead of time a shopping list-—and we have a variety HERE-—don’t have to go THERE....

We have County Deputies who give a damn—and whom we trust.

We actually stand in line IN PERSON TO VOTE-—and we HATE ‘Mail In Ballots”......

ENTIRE SCHOOL COMPLEX—K-12 is all on one parcel & busses have good drivers.

Local merchants have the same employees for a long time, and they treat us with respect-—always willing to go the ‘extra mile’ to get us what we need.

I can hear sirens-—ON THE US Highway 1 mile away at night-—and can hear the Sheriff’s practicing their shooting in the quarry—over 1.5 miles away, every Tuesday.

The problems in Los Angeles are behind me-—I do NOT miss it at all.

PLEASE DO NOT MOVE HERE—We don’t need your kind of “MODERN LIVING”. We LIKE RURAL LIFE.

I WILL NEVER FEEL SORRY FOR THOSE WHO CHOSE TO STAY IN THEIR PARTICULAR HELLHOLE_-LA/Seattle/Portland/San Fran, etc.

The urban whiners are chicken littles-always afraid of something-everything-but Cali isn’t the only state where that happens-they are just louder. However, they don’t seem to realize that rural areas are not just places for vaca cabins and tourist traps for city dwellers to go to and be waited on by us plebs-without rural people and their gardens, pastures and orchards, people in the cities wouldn’t have food to eat-especially not fresh produce and grass fed meat.

In my opinion, as long as the city ‘rats STFU, stop encroaching, and leave us alone to manage the land and animals in a healthy, productive and balanced way-which they know nothing about-we will continue to grow food and sell it to them at fair prices, since they are not able to produce anything to eat themselves. But if they keep bitching and trying to push their clueless, wasteful agenda-that might be a different scenario...

Obviously they must be rounded up and forced to do things our way at gun point.
