California Plans to Outlaw Natural Gas by 2030

As if residents of the Golden State did not have enough to make them miserable with wildfires, mudslides, mounting crime, high prices, energy shortages, and homeless people leaving various substances on city streets. Now the California Air Resources Board, or CARB (good grief, even the acronyms are ridiculous), is gearing up to rid the state of natural gas heaters and furnaces.

According to The Hill, last week, the board passed a proposal that will lay the groundwork to phase out space heaters and water appliances by 2030. The Hill notes that the move is part of an effort to meet the “federal 70 parts per billion, 8-hour ozone standard” within the next 15 years. The article also says that the California Public Utilities Commission has eliminated subsidies for new natural gas hookups. So some people and businesses will not even access natural gas while it’s legal.

The talking points at the top of the The Hill piece state, “Natural gas use contributes to air pollution and can threaten gains made in the fight against climate change.” Having personally spoken with people in the field, I can tell you that natural gas is extremely clean burning and an environmentally-sound fuel not only for heating homes but even for powering vehicles. I have known county governments that purchased natural gas vehicles. The interiors of these vehicles begin to wear out long before the engines. Armrests fall off these vehicles before the engines begin to get old.

Haven’t they already banned wood heat? Sounds like they are going to need a lot of coal.

So if California outlaws Natural Gas, then what will they use to generate electricity? Oh yeah, they'll use solar, wind, and nuclear, and buy the rest of what they need from Texas.

It's always worked in the past, right?

I see the US as, like the EU, a federation of mostly sovereign nations (50 in the US). The biggest difference is that the US has an army.

But there are a lot of countries in the world I’ll never step foot in. Iran is one. California is another. They are both not only batchit crazy, but the local religion is dangerous, IMO.

California is gonna have to ban farts from humans and all animals, and exhaling too. That’s ‘natural gas’. ;)

I’d say their electrical grid will be a train wreck, but it’s already a train wreck. Rolling brown outs every summer is not a good normal.

"But natural gas is clean burning..."

You are not allowed to say that.

And the idiot Democrats have not finished destroying what is left of California yet. This will help them finish it off. 😡

Trump, when elected, must rescind CARB’s charter which exists as an exemption to federal fuel standards.

I don’t know what this actually means. Practically every home in the state uses natural gas for cooking and water heating and heating. Many industries use gas boilers and such. Outlawing it in 7 years is impossible, so I don’t believe it. And the state can’t replace it with electricity - which of course comes from burning natural gas!

phase out space heaters and water appliances by 2030

We could use a little more infromation.

1.) Do "space heaters" include central heating furnaces?
2.) Do "water appliances" include hot water heaters?
3.) Does "phase out" mean banning currently installed space heaters and water appliances?
