Hoping we can keep a thread going for updates among FReepers within Florida. Particularly along the West Coast including Tampa. We know there is a lot of politicization going on as Florida is a red state and the reports coming out of the National Weather Service as a federal agency are simply over the top. But I've been a Tampa resident now for 37 years the wife is a native Floridian. We are surrounded by huge Cypress trees over 60 feet tall but not in an evacuation or flood plain area. We are senior citizens but if you are in the area and need assistance we will try to help out. BTW Tampa International is closing at 5pm today.

Regardless of what frantic words the politicos use to describe the hurricane, there is a large storm headed Florida’s way. I have a number of good friends in the area, so I pray that you all remain safe.

I am in Central Florida about 50 miles east of Tampa. Currently east of some track models and directly in line of some models.

If the current track is accurate and the storm comes in at Tampa Bay with 8-10’ surge, it will be catastrophic for Tampa. Anyone who has traversed Bayshore Blvd. knows what I’m talking about.

GET OUT!!!!! I have been in the eye of 2 hurricanes, Alicia and Ike. Also I have been through Rita, Allison and Harvey. Get out. Being anywhere near the eye of the hurricane is like being the focus of God’s wrath and fury. I am not talking the Jesus loves the children God, no the fire, brimstone, locusts, pillars of salt, frogs, death of your first born God.

Lets just pray that all the barges are either tied up well or taken away also.

I am riding it out. I have been through many hurricanes, but not in this particular house.

The DNC will be very busy telling the press how to blame everything on DeSantis.

I’m glad my Uncle moved many years ago. He used to live in New Port Richey.

The Tampa Bay area is going to have the worst storm in over 100 years. If the eye is in Tampa Bay or north of the bay, there will be a huge storm surge. Water will be pushed in with no real outlet. Anyone near there should get out. This isn’t a typical hurricane. I’m familiar with that area.

My copy of the MyRadar weather app shows the eye potentially making landfall just south of Tampa, through Bradenton.
One of my brothers-in-law is in Bradenton.
I hope he has the good sense to get the hell outta there…
