A Florida sheriff has been ordered by a jury to pay $15 million to the parents of a teenager who died while trying to cross a highway after being kicked out of the state fair by deputies.

No claim that the "youth" did not deserve to get kicked out of the fair.
He refused a ride home with his football coach and then got killed trying to cross I4.
Whose fault is that?
Why are taxpayers shelling out $15mmm?
The ferals don’t fall very far from the tree.
Article isn’t clear. Was the kid involved or not?
But still this is nuts. The jury voted to give thier money and everyone’s money to this kids family for being unsafe.
If ya have lots of kids ya might even make Billionaire.
Appeal ...
The sheriff wasn’t directly responsible for the kid’s death; the kid chose to wrong way to get home.
Along the same kind of logic...
The people crossing the Rio Grande who drown and those who die in the sweltering heat in the desert and those who die inside trailer trucks because of lack of air conditioning...
those people should also be compensated by Biden and Kamala and the democrats who refuse to close the border, because otherwise, those people would not be dead.
The sheriff didnt kick the man out of his car into the highway in the path of oncoming traffic ...
The sheriff was nowhere around ...
The man decided to cross the highway himself ...
Appeal ...
“The teenager wound up on Interstate 4 after he and others were kicked out of the fair for what deputies described as an altercation that included knocking over fair patrons and stealing from vendors.”
Sheriff should have cuffed them and provided a ride to the county jail.
“Excellent get rich quick strategy”
Yep.
Not too many years ago, *most* families would never even think of suing someone for something like this.
I don’t understand how he got out of a gate and onto I4? I was thinking Hard Rock Casino was across from fairgrounds.
If I am appalled at this, does the appeal become more successful?
I love word play!
Yes the casino is in the other side of the highway! The Yut crossed a 8’ cyclone fence to enter the highway. I recall free tickets were given to feral customers that had low IQ. This jury award is the beginning of Florida to become California.
“I don’t understand how he got out of a gate and onto I4? I was thinking Hard Rock Casino was across from fairgrounds.”
Fairgrounds are next to I-4. And he had several hours to traverse those few yards.
It’s bad enough riding in a car on route four. I can’t imagine trying to cross it. That kid had a death wish.
“Article isn’t clear. Was the kid involved or not?”
Several hundred yutes were “having fun”.
Cops were trying to maintain order. Too many to arrest.
How fair is that?
Not very.
The "youth" was killed in 2014. Why the 8 year delay?
Driving on DIE 4 is dangerous enough. The “Youth” didn’t need to go anywhere near it. The main entrance/exit to the fairgrounds is on US 301, where there’s a sidewalk and a bus stop.
Anyone wanna guess on the jury constituents?
This is so wrong.
