The late-blooming 2022 Atlantic Tropical Storm season is making up for lost time. A tropical system has developed in the Central Caribbean Sea. This storm system is forecast to threaten continental U.S. interests next week. While the tropical wave passed south of a key geographic area known as Hebert's Box #1, it will very likely pass through Hebert's Box #2. These boxes are useful as predictors of hurricanes that will strike South Florida. For more information about Hebert's Boxes, see Hebert Box. See graphic below which illustrated the Hebert's Boxes.

Someone else has claimed the "Breaking News" spot and the mods have let him stay there. Can't be the same mods as in years past as they have always put NautiNurse's hurricane threads front and center.
Saw that another thread on Ian has popped up in my sidebar.

Saw that. I’ve been keeping that loop open in a window all day, and you can tell there was a period a couple of hours ago where the cloud tops weren’t as high. A definite eye almost formed this morning, but its all filled in now.
Every hour that the storm DOESN’T increase in intensity is a good thing. There’s a big glob of dry air in the Gulf which may help out, too.
Team A is usually on site during the storm. Team B comes in up to 3 days later as relief. Usually, a hospital splits its top staff between the teams.
We have a saying around here: Storm magnet

That’s caww’s thread. She is a great and most valuable freeper. No doubt when Ian escalated to Cat 1, she posted a thread to fill a FR vacuum because by the time she posted, Nautinurse’s thread was off the visible Extended and Front Page. Nautinurse has always been FR’s official thread and will always remain so as long as she is willing and able to report and post.
see my post #566
As keeper of the official Hurricane Ping List, I will keep this thread going. Thanks.
It is possible the pass missed the eyewall.
Out and about in Homosassa (Citrus County) today.
Stations around the area are already running out of gas. Some that have gas are out of non-ethanol.
I will say that the groceries seem to be a lot less crowded than I see on TV. The Publix was still well-stocked and had plenty of water when I was there. I did not dare go to WalMart.
Roads are more crowded than usual. Looks like a lot of folks with RVs and trailers are bugging out.
Greetings Nautinurse:
Did you also notice my post #552 to you? Many Freepers are not on your Hurricane ping list, but whenever there is a sniff of a hurricane, I look you up and keep your thread in my tab list til all danger has passed in all states.
I’m sure I am not alone in that regard.
Remarkably the Publix on St Pete Beach was well stocked this afternoon.
Thank you for your local report. Much appreciated. Stay safe!
Thank you for your local report. FP&L just sent me well wishes to stay safe and to know they are ready to pick up the pieces after the storm.
I was living in Phoenix back then with a vacation cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks. Sold them both last year and moved to a small town on Albemarle Sound, NC. So now I am in Hurricane country.
My kids and grandkids are leaving Tampa Bay tomorrow morning.
Are they traveling to NC or staying in FL?
I’m surprised I4 isn’t a parking lot already.. (or more so than usual)
Chevron and BP have announced they are shutting down oil platforms in the GOM.
Whew.. just filled up all our vehicles..
They are going to some friends on the southern eastern coast of Florida.
