The late-blooming 2022 Atlantic Tropical Storm season is making up for lost time. A tropical system has developed in the Central Caribbean Sea. This storm system is forecast to threaten continental U.S. interests next week. While the tropical wave passed south of a key geographic area known as Hebert's Box #1, it will very likely pass through Hebert's Box #2. These boxes are useful as predictors of hurricanes that will strike South Florida. For more information about Hebert's Boxes, see Hebert Box. See graphic below which illustrated the Hebert's Boxes.

“What does it cost to insure your house against these monsters?”
Depends on location and house. We are a few miles inland and a 10% deductible rider for named storms runs $1000-$1500 a year.
I hope you are not in one of the red zones! (zoom in to see)

Hope you stay safe through this monster storm.
Very telling about how bad this is probably going to be. To cross the entire state and still deliver hurricane force winds on the other side?....sheesh. It’s not like it’s crossing the uninhabited bathtub Everglades either.
“I’m sub 2k, in the sticks. “
Total? We are a few miles from the cost and our rider is less than that.
This makes me have awesome respect for the early sea faring people who had to sail the high seas and had no way of predicting storms like this one.
I hear you. People who have never experienced prolonged power outages with no way to get around have no idea how horrible it is to be stuck like that. How do you go down a road that’s flooded or has a huge tree in the middle of it? Luckily, my brother took a chainsaw with him to deliver the supplies, and he had to use it to get to our other brother and his family.
most of that area will be under water laster today as landfall happens just north and winds turn SW
Thank you!
Lol. My mother also said “co-inky-dinks”. She also used “catty wampus” for something that was diagonally across, like, “the people in the house catty wampus from the Smiths found a dead squirrel in their tree”
Sorry Reed Timmer. I know someone named Tim Reed and it css as me out backwards lol
I hear he’s stuck. Yikes!
Do you live in Florida? Any idea how insurance (doesn’t ) work here? A storm like this and a huge insurance problem that already exists could permanently wipe DeSantis off the map, let alone leave billions in uninsured damages and thousands of people without homes.
This storm is …impressive. Hope he doesn’t have to get off the barrier island.
Not sure what the elevation is. We are in SE cape inland from beach area. Canal on opposite side of street. Our yard outside lanai filling up. Probably could float a canoe. House airtight and dry so far. It’s the wind that’s frightening.
And...we just had another power flicker...
When the hurricane remnants approach from the east, as Ian will, the rain gets dumped on the Carolina side of the mountains. It’s the ones that come from the south and up the valley where we get heavy rain. So it won’t be much here, except possibly way up in the northeastern corner there in the Tri-Cities area.
Good heavens. These people are in for a loooong day/night. Prayers up.
