Tom Jones at the Florida-based Poynter Institute -- touted by Johnny Dollar as a "Stelter press agent" -- has penned a deeply disturbed piece headlined "CNN ‘hewing toward the center’ is not necessarily good for our democracy: Pushing for fairness and completeness in journalism is never a bad idea. But presenting 'both sides' sometimes can be."
Jones was attempting to shame the Chicago Tribune for an editorial touting this purported CNN move to the center -- which sorely lacks evidence so far, other than dismissing a few flagrantly opinionated staffers like Stelter and John Harwood. Jones sounds like a press agent upset at Stelter's firing.
At the end of 2020, Jones handed out his "best of media" kudos, suggesting the best media show was Reliable Sources and the best book on media was Stelter's profane, gossipy anti-Fox book Hoax. Sounds like a press agent, indeed. Oh, and Jones hates every word that flows from Greg Gutfeld.
The Tribune writers mysteriously suggest that "Perhaps it’s Pollyannaish to hope that CNN can retrofit itself in a country where each political side believes the other is living in a kind of dangerous alternate reality," but somehow the "innovation" of moving ranty Don Lemon to mornings with Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins signals "refreshing changes that might just help with this country’s ever-expanding habit of spinning the facts before digesting them.” No-Spin Don Lemon???
Jones angrily replied:
The editorial got this right: It is Pollyannaish to think that way. I’ll add another word to at least consider: dangerous. Pushing for fairness and completeness in journalism as well as fewer “hot takes” is never a bad idea. But that’s not the same as making sure you present both sides. Sometimes, the other side shouldn’t be given a voice, particularly if that side’s argument is based on lies or pushes harmful agendas.
Jones does not specify what is "based on lies or pushes harmful agendas," but I think we could start with "climate change skepticism" and "anti-LGBTQ" and anti-CRT and probably "photo ID requirements at the polls."
You can be mad at Trump's refusal to concede for its disrespect toward democracy, but liberals never understand how stupid it sounds to say "I favor democracy, and that's why the other side shouldn't be given a voice."
Satan can’t stand the competition.....
Poynter is supposed to be non-partisan.
Sounds like that Florada man should go back to where he belongs - some worthless east coast state. Or Mexi-pornia.
What goes around comes around. They don’t know the seeds they are planting.
Broward or Palm counties?
“Liberals claim to want to give a hearing to other views, but then are shocked and offended to discover that there are other views.”
- William F. Buckley
Well, at least it’s not the Tom Jones we all know, lol.
People who cannot debate ideas in a logical way shut down any disagreement with censorship and marginalization. They are morally twisted and intellectually stunted. They don’t want their inability to make a convincing argument exposed. It would mean a loss of influence and power. Narcissists do not like to be called out on how stupid they really are.
They who sow the wind, reap the whirlwind.....................
You realize you just described every communist leader that’s ever lived right?
The thing is CNN has not changed a bit. It is still the rat propaganda tool it has been for years. They dumped a few of the long time highly Paid on air fools and that’s it.
Yes.
These people really are quite unbelievable. They think like communist pigs. What a horrible country we will have if these cretins get their way.
The reason for the polarization is because on a large number of major issues each side believes the discussion needs to end because they have come to the correct conclusion.
On abortion, we know that it is the killing of an innocent human being. No further discussion is required. In fact, what should be happening is ending abortion as quickly as possible so that the killing will stop.
On abortion, they know that abortion must remain legal and unstigmatized in order for women to be able to engage as fully in society and the economy as men. No further discussion is required. In fact, what should be happening is a process to make abortion legal and available throughout the country.
We used to joke back in the 70's that when the liberals said they wanted to "dialogue" what they really meant is to lecture us on how they were right and we were wrong. Still, despite this they would actually engage at some level and would even occasionally debate issues.
No more. Intransigency is the order of the day.
When the liberals were in the minority they were the big supporters of free speech and open discussion. Today it is mostly conservatives who are more likely to be free speech absolutists.
What does that say about the state of conservatism?
>>liberals never understand how stupid it sounds to say “I favor democracy, and that’s why the other side shouldn’t be given a voice.”<<
Yet they shamelessly pursue that VERY course. Why do you think there is no more college comedy circuit? The comedians were shut down for daring to go against liberal orthodoxy.
At some point we’re really going to have to take out the garbage in this country or we won’t survive.
They think like communist pigs?
They ARE communist pigs.
Some pigs are more equal than others..................
“is not necessarily good for our democracy:”
That phrase is all over the place.
Democracy is no more than mob rule.
If ‘Majority Rule’ was so important for Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) and South Africa, why are those same people who told us that for decades now so fervently against it here?......................
