A new poll out Thursday shows GOP incumbent Sen. Lisa Murkowski in a dead heat to keep her seat against Republican candidate Kelly Tshibaka, who has been endorsed by former President Donald Trump. According to the poll from Fabrizio Ward and Impact Research, commissioned by AARP, Murkowski leads on the final round of balloting by a mere three votes among the 1,050 likely voters surveyed.
“It is an understatement to call that within the margin of error,” the pollsters wrote in their report, noting “10 percent of voters did not rank either of those candidates in the final round.”
The survey was conducted by phone with a +/- 4.4 percent margin of error between Sept. 6-11.
Under Alaska’s unusual and complicated ranked-choice voting system first used this year, the top four candidates from the open-party primary compete in the general election among voters, who “rank” their preferences on the ballot. If no candidate receives a majority, or 50 percent of the first-choice ballots case, the votes are re-tabulated again after eliminating the lowest vote-getter. The lost candidate’s ballots are then counted towards the voters’ second-choice pick, and the process is repeated until a candidate reaches more than 50 percent.
According to the AARP survey, Tshibaka holds a 13 percent lead over Murkowski with 43 percent of the vote to 35 percent, while Democrat Patricia Chesbro comes behind at 13 percent followed by Republican Buzz Kelley at 1 percent. Seven percent reported they were undecided.
Kelley dropped out of the race Monday and endorsed Tshibaka, who is also running with the support of the state party.

So, for it to be a 3-vote dead heat, every single Democrat vote for Chesbro has Murkowski as their second choice.
That should tell Alaskans a LOT about the Kow.
What is also interesting is that it could indicate that it doesn’t matter what you do in office, voters will still pick the D in the booth.
It would be very interesting to see the unmanipulated stats from a RCV election. In other words, I want to get the report the Democrats get to see.
Dem machine will help her cheat.
Problem is with that chaotic mess of “ranked-choice” voting up there, that seat very well could end up with the dems.
The Alaska RINO must go.
"Get out and vote my baby, a whole lotta cheatin' goin' on."
Sadly, if it’s hanging by a thread, I’m sure the same illegible, write-in ballots that got her past Muller in 2010, will be used again.
But still hanging.
RINOs are ok with that.
Murky will want the Dumb-O-Crats picking her as the second choice.
Rigged Choice Voting.
Snip.
I’d rank my vote so I could make sure I ranked the Dumb-O-Crat dead last.
(Who's the genius who decided to leave her last name off of her website?)
According to lawyer Robert Barnes (@BarnesLaw) it not only is not unconstitutional, but is not terrible if you properly inform the voters. The Alaska GOP did a terrible (deliberate?) job of not informing its voters how this worked while DemoKKKrats have it down.
Personally, I oppose it. I would make EVERY election about the most extremes on each end and force voters to go in one direction or another.
Why are there so many republicans that are secretly democrats but absolutely no democrats that are secretly republicans? (Bongino)
This ranked choice voting should be illegal. I saw someone on the War Room say that they also have it in Utah and Maine.
If I lived in Alaska, it’s one of the extremely rare occasions where I would reccomend voting for the democrat for second place to remove the odious incumbent Murkowski.
It risks a democrat taking the seat but worth it to remove the treacherous oligarch.
Appointed by her father, votes for EVERTHING the democrats want and intentionally thwarts conservatives. Voted to convict Trump. Get her the hell out at all costs.
VOTE HER OUT.
She’s a democrat in Republican clothing.
LOL!
