DENVER (KDVR) – An event being held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday aims to get people ready to respond to emergencies as part of National Preparedness month.

The Denver Office of Emergency Management is hosting two events during September as part of a nationwide campaign that will provide free emergency “Bug Out Bags” to anyone in attendance.

Those events fall under the DenverREADY: Preparedness Program which is part of the National Preparedness Month movement, the theme of which is: Protecting your Legacy: The Life you’ve Built is Worth Protecting.

One more thought.

Considering today’s judicial climate if you have to present a personal ID to claim one, then recommend you pass on it.

I'll take a look at that. I have several canisters stored in the building outside, but it would be nice to be able to refill them.

There would be nowhere to go from here. Unless there is a forced evacuation, we would just have to hunker down.

And yes, I do have the iodine tabs. Amazon has a good price on them, but you'd be crazy to live here and not have some in your bugout bag. LOL They have an extremely long shelf life before they expire.

“ and the one I built for my dogs.”

We have a bucket from Lowe’s for our dog. It’s got food dishes, a blanket, food both dry and canned, a harness and leash, some squeaky toys, and all his vaccination records. We can grab it in less than a minute.

A mistake that a lot of guys make with a BOB (bug out bag) is to load it with stuff for living off the land, as though they were going into the forest to trap animals, fish, and build winter shelters and such.

For most people the BOB is for taking to a shelter, things that the couple or family will need in a staduim or tent city.

In the car it would mean dealing with what they need to survive at least 3 days in the car, or walking out under whatever the worst conditions could be and at the longest distance to help, or simply to dump the contents into the trunk and walking to get a gasoline can which would be much easier to carry in a pack, walking 5 miles with gasoline or a new battery in your hands can be a hellish chore.

People forget snow conditions when whether in the car and getting out for bathroom breaks or working on the engine or tires,or hiking out, the feet need to be thought of as you spend time getting your tennis shoes, blue jeans, and socks soaked under freezing, or even subzero conditions for some.

I live between DC and Philadelphia. West is the only direction to go, along with the rest of the population.

Bug-in is the only reasonable option.

I had a large duffle bag and put most of that in it. I have gallon bags filled with their kibble in the freezer that will be easy to grab.

Gotta look out for the pupsters!

Having done thousands of miles on foot with a backpack absolutely agree on the weight issue

I see people who have 40-60lb+ packs they can walk with but seriously doubt they could for days and certainly aren’t goign to run or climb with it.

We have different bags and plans for different scenarios but the never coming home leaving on foot bags are right at 20-25lbs —lots gaps but figure in that scenario shit is really bad and lucky to be alive anyway

That’s great if you have somewhere to bug out to.

It’s a different kind of “bugout”! Licker, smokes, needles, and meth. What else would be required?

Seriesly! Why carry your own when you can lift someone else’s bag when you get “there”!

I lived in Denver for 35 years. I have never seen a bugout scenario discussed in the Denver or Colorado government whatsoever. Now, they openly discuss that the cities may need to be fled. Something tells me they know any civil unrest they are trying to cause will become urban versus rural and they are on the losing side of urban.
