Oberlin College to Pay Family Bakery $36.6 Million in Damages Over False Racism Accusations

Following a failed appeal, Ohio’s Oberlin College is finally set to pay $36.6 million in damages that the courts have awarded to a local bakery in a defamation case.

In a Sept. 9 statement, Oberlin announced that it had “initiated” payments to Gibson’s Bakery, a 137-year-old, fifth-generation family business that was wrongfully accused of racial profiling after a shoplifting incident involving black students.

In April, an Ohio appeals court upheld a jury’s finding that the college, in its handling of student protests over the 2016 incident, committed libel, slander, and interference with business relationships against the bakery. On Aug. 30, the Ohio Supreme Court decided to not hear Oberlin’s final appeal, bringing an end to the long-running legal battle. *** We value our relationship with the City of Oberlin, and we look forward to continuing our support of and partnership with local businesses as we work together to help our city thrive.”

The statement didn’t include an apology to the Gibsons, whose business was pushed to the brink amid protests and harassment. *** The Incident

In November 2016, store clerk Allyn D. Gibson caught a black Oberlin student stealing wine bottles from the store. The confrontation between the clerk and the student, joined by his two black peers, soon escalated into a fight. When the police arrived at the scene, they found the clerk lying on the ground, while the three Oberlin students punched and kicked him.

The students pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor in 2017 and acknowledged in court that the clerk’s actions weren’t racially motivated. But that didn’t stop Oberlin officials and students from organizing demonstrations outside the bakery, during which protesters demanded that customers shop elsewhere.

“The clerk’s actions weren’t racially motivated.” Were the three blacks who were punching and kicking the white clerk who was lying on the ground racially motivated?

That was quite the case. The school kept trying to say it was all about student free speech, when that wasn’t the issue at all. The issue was a dean who was at the protest in an official capacity actively making false, public accusations against the bakery. There was other stuff about permitting defamatory posters to be put up on campus, but I think it was her actions at the main protest that really sank the College. And rightly so.

I admit I have to believe this was a case of working with the legal system and finding justice. I am honest enough to say that.

UFO revelations coming out. A case of justice achieved.
What next?

nice to see Oberlin disgorge. Maybe this will serve as a warning to other socialist “woke” crazies in other colleges.

Good to see Oberlin made to pay for their hate crime against this family and their business.

Would be nice also to see that dean be held accountable as an individual.

My question is this: Is the Dean still employed by Oberlin?

So she'll get a promotion out of it, no?

The clerk’s action, of being beaten and lying bloody on the floor, was not racially motivated.

So the White is always branded the aggressor in any and all confrontations with America’s #1 certified victim group!

The students stole stuff and beat up a man! They get away with it because they are in a specially-privileged victim group which is never held accountable for its crimes.

Nope. She was basically given the boot/left early in 2021. They really didn't have a choice.

Not only that but the store was used was catering and all contracts were cancelled and they were forbidden to do any business with the school.

In addition, the school actively slandered the bakery and continues to do so till today.

Would loved to have been a mouse in the corner of the college president’s office when the decision came down that they would have to pay.

3 black thieves beat a clerk when they were caught stealing.

They were charged with a misdemeanor.

The college said the store was WAAAAAAAACIST and tried to shut them down

The college was sued, lost, appealed, lost again....now they have to pay tens of millions but they still wont apologize.

The Oberlin/Gibson's Bakery situation is the typical, standard tactic of all Democrats (such as the violent Black Lives Matter thug mob riot organization ... or Democrat/RINO politicians):

Perpetrate something terrible and illegal (such as an extremely violent racist crime ... or a stolen Presidential election), then hypocritically and falsely accuse your victims of doing what you yourself are guilty of perpetrating. [If I've said that once, I've said it a thousand times.] But it still doesn't register with clueless Democrat/RINO voters, thus explaining why Democrat/RINO politicians dominate the U.S. political scene, controlling the White House, Senate, and the House. (I won't even mention Democrat/RINO political control at the state, city, and local levels.) Maybe someday Democrat/RINO voters will wake up and finally see the light ............... maybe.

That college has been a den of iniquity for rich brats for decades.

I’d like to see it go out of business.
