It might be right. Assuming ages 0-22 that is $7.5K per year per kid. If the total includes college, it might be cheap, at that.

Single, childless women are a threat to society as a whole.

They make up the core of people supporting wokeness, animal rights, socialism, and other society killing illnesses.

>> This number can’t be right

Agreed in terms of household income.

But if dividing defense budgets, pensions, etc by the number of children in the Country, then maybe yes.

Hopefully, their stock brokers will visit them in their hospital or nursing home one day!

I don’t care.

I am happy my wife decided to get married to me.

My girls got married to nice guys.

Aside from that, I don’t care what other women do. We are a free society.

This article is so poorly written and constructed that it's no wonder most Freepers never bother to read the article before commenting.

Journalism is dead in the US.

There is no doubt that childless single women are wealthier on the whole than their child-rearing counterparts. No study is necessary to draw that conclusion. Are they happier though?

If the $ have made them so happy, why aren’t they happy with just whatever guy they can find?

Here’s the quote from the source Essence is citing:

“A 2015 study done by the USDA found that it cost an estimated $233,610 to raise two children from birth to age 17 in a middle-income family with two parents. That figure, adjusted for inflation, is just over a quarter of a million dollars at $286,000 in 2022.”

Two kids, birth to 17, cost $286k in total, according to that source.

Essence magazine…does any more need to be said about it or its readership?

Well it was certainly documented in the movie Idiocracy when the smart couple kept finding reasons why it was the wrong time to have kids. While the drunken redneck got his wife, girlfriend, neighbor and others pregnant. His offspring did the same.

The end result was a dramatic lowering of the average national IQ.

No but based on some limited observations, many of them are involved hard left-wing organizations such as Democracy Now, and dare I say at least in some places the League of Women Voters.

Richer financially, I suppose.

That’s about it, though. My husband and my children (and grandchild) make me one of the richest women around!

“This is unsurprising since on average, it takes about $286,000/year to raise two children in the US”

Propaganda.

I’m sure this is true. I’ve been married for 50 years to the same woman. 2 kids, a home, and the amenities to go with it. My assets total up to some equity in the bargain but cash on hand is pretty dismal compared to others. I don’t regret my path. Everybody has to be somewhere and I’m just fine being here. Wife, two kids, grandson, three granddaughters, two dogs, two horses, two cats, and a home paid for. Left alone on my own, I wouldn’t have 💩. It’s just me and my proclivities for screwing up with idle time on my hands. 🙂
