Queen Elizabeth II has been likened to the invisible glue holding the United Kingdom together. Some think the reign of King Charles III will see those bonds come unstuck, giving new momentum to Scotland’s push for independence.
But the fact the queen died last week at her beloved Highland retreat, Balmoral Castle, has made Scotland the focus of commemorations watched around the globe in the first days after her death. That has served as a reminder of the monarchy’s deep ties to Scotland — and could provide a boost for the union.
Scottish historian Tom Devine said because by “extraordinary serendipity” the queen died in Scotland, “it was possible for the world to see the relationship between the queen and this country.”
“It was a fitting end to a life of service and a life of concern for the four nations — not simply one nation — of the U.K.,” he said.

COUNT on it
Charles III is a dud. Jeb! has more energy and garners more excitement.
He doesn’t have the aptitude for it.
He didn’t even have the aptitude to be a prince, with very
little responsibility.
Face it. The world economy has passed Britain and the people themselves have committed cultural suicide. Like Italy, they will survive as a tourist attraction. They need these royal clowns running around in medieval garb. Otherwise they will starve monarchy or no monarchy.
Yep, Dullard is a good word for him.
Some think the reign of King Charles III will see those bonds come unstuck, giving new momentum to Scotland’s push for independence.
As I recall, there was a vote on Scotland leaving the UK a few years ago. The vote was for Scotland to remain the UK, however, well over 40% of people voted for Scotland to be an independent country. Perhaps that sentiment will have grown, or will grow, as times change, with the Queen gone. We’ll see.
I agree.
Further, I do wish the Queen would have been able to pass off
to Williams.
I just hope Charles doesn’t do too much harm.
“Loss of unifying queen” is the nice way of saying that everyone thinks Charles is an arrogant, self-centered, ineffective, annoying prat.
I have been curious if this show of historic tradtion, between Scotland and England, will change sentiment in Scotland to more against disunion. The huge crowds in Scotland viewing the procession of Elizabth II’s remains to Giles Cathedral in Edinburg, made me think of that. Or, maybe that will be just a passing moment soon forgotten.
Doesn’t matter.
The UK’s enemedia have united behind their Deep State’s desire to prop up Chuck and his side chick.
The fawning, uncritical, revisionist coverage is everywhere.
And I’ve never seen so many newspaper websites delete so many comments or refuse to allow comment on so many articles.
Note to the UK: You lot have a Deep State, too. Its just as pernicious as ours. And your Royal Family kisses its arse.
The Queen deliberately chose to die in Scotland to cement the bond between the monarchy and Scotland, and by extension with the whole UK.
I noticed she gave her wealth to UNICEF.
Billions if my memory serves.
I know people mean well, but those funds are co-mingled in
my opinion and it is all used to subvert sane global
policy.
One thing people have to keep in mind. We have had a deep
state clear back to the early 1900s and before. We still
had to conduct business and do our best to defeat their
goals.
We still have to. Those who came before us, did.
Daily Mail had an article a couple of days ago of “King Chaz” acting like a jackass at a signing ceremony. It was removed (or I had trouble finding it). Methinks they got an angry phone call from the Palace.
QEII was the last tether to old England. Now it is gone. Charles is a envirowacko. He doesn’t command the respect she did.
I was born and raised there. My old city, Leicester, is now having riots because Hindu’s and Muslims are clashing.
There’s an epidemic of ‘global leaders’ using their position to fulfill personal desires, enrich themselves, and grab more power. They are the problem.
Plus Leicester is struggling this year in the Premier League.
Under Charles III, look for Northern Ireland to vote to leave the Union.
King Charles III is a “place holder” for his oldest son, Prince William, no more, no less.
Hi, first time seeing that term “envirowacko” in a very long time ⌛. First said by the late great Rush Limbaugh.
I want to think that, but Charles III could live for a long
long time.
I had hoped Charles III would draw the short straw, but now
it appears Prince William may get a shorter straw than I
would like.
William has a level head on his shoulders > IMO.
I don’t know what his deep state views are, related to the
global warming hoax, and other manipulations.
