On the road to victory? How clever Ukrainian counter-attacks have pinned down Russia's troops in the south and punched through their frontline in the north - leaving Putin's invasion at risk of collapse

It is an outcome that few dared to hope for. But 10 days after Ukraine's generals announced the start of their first major counter-attack against Russian troops, the road to victory is starting to become clearer.

Clever tactics saw Ukraine's commanders draw Russian troops into the south of the country before pinning them down with a counter-attack around the city of Kherson.

Some of Putin's best men are now all-but trapped in the city, bullied by Ukrainian artillery and with no easy way to retreat back across the Dnipro River after HIMARS strikes destroyed the main bridges.

That gave Ukraine the chance to spring a second - surprise - counter-attack to the east of the city of Kharkiv, with a 'fist' of tanks and infantry punching through thinned-out defences there yesterday.

Kharkiv

For months, Kharkiv has been a forgotten frontline. Not since Ukrainian troops reached - and were subsequently pushed back from - Russia's border in mid-May has much attention been paid to fighting here.

But all that changed yesterday when Ukraine launched a surprise attack to the east of the city, punching through Russian lines weakened by the withdrawal of troops to Kherson and storming more than 12 miles in a single day.

ISW estimates they captured some 155 square miles in one fell swoop, with videos showing dozens of dead or captured Russian troops - including one lieutenant-colonel - and overrun positions.

Balakliya, a city that previously housed important Russian bases and ammo dumps, was abandoned late yesterday, sources linked to the Russian military said.

I was enjoying those memes of panic guy - until I saw that longer video, that showed where he was hit by artillery frag and blast at close range. He was probably deaf and concussed, as well as bleeding from burning frag wounds.

If he survives, he will now have the dishonor of becoming the face of defeat.

But someone has to do it, because defeat is now inevitable for the Russian forces in Ukraine.

Based on the map, it doesn’t look as if the Russians have achieved the air superiority you would have thought they would have had. The fact that NATO supplies are getting through to the Ukrainian military is evidence of Russia’s failure in this regard.

Thanks. Important point is the Russians troops on the pontoon were retreating south across the river away from the fighting north of the river. They were running away from the fighting.

It looks like a lot of the western weapons are finally in Ukrainian hands. I wonder what hit the Russians on the pontoon. Lots of shrapnel it seems.

“it doesn’t look as if the Russians have achieved the air superiority”

On the West/North side of the Dniper River in Kherson, the Ukrainians seem to have Air Superiority, flying dozens of sorties per day, and shooting down some Russian aircraft each day of the current Operation there.

HARM missiles tore up Russian Air Defenses in the lead up to the offensive, additional Ukrainian Air Defense assets were reinforced, and the Ukrainian ground forces are bristling with Stingers and other Short Range Air Defense missiles.

Those Stingers are everywhere. Even where Russian Air has the relative upper hand (Donbas), they have to fly nap of the earth.

NATO E3A Sentry spy plane just arrived to watch Kherson again after a few days of absence. Something’s up.

This is proper mobile warfare and operational maneuver, something the Russians couldnt manage since March, back when they were running around unopposed by Ukrainian forces in peacetime mode.

The Russians could break through Ukrainian front lines from April-July, even to today in a few places, but they havent been able to exploit. Hence their WWI rate of advance. I’ve wondered why.

When I saw that earlier on Polish broadcast, it wasn’t mentioned what was used.

Me personally, I think it was either Excalibur shells or they hit them from above with a drone.

Ukraine has been making explosives and dropping them from cheap Chinese drones.

Unsustainable.

And further unnecessarily depleting vital military equipment and resources Ukraine can ill-afford to be wasting like cannonfodder thrown into the wind.

In fact, according to the heavily pro-Ukrainian https://liveuamap.com/, nothing has changed and no lines changed, etc.

Maybe the ZelenskyyIdiot Nazi Regime needs to do a better job with its censorship of journalists and their media blackout BS?

There is video proof of HARM missile’s being fired from Mig-29’s.

Those are not the only anti-radiation/anti-radar missiles in the tool box either.

The release was deliberate.

Additionally, months ago now, the UA “Snake Island” recovery involved Harpoon missiles (at least), and may also have included a couple of HARM’s.

Also related, there is footage of significantly upgraded digital avionics and targeting systems in at least 3 different UA Air Force jets.

Bottom line, if the Orc’s flip on the radar, they well be destroyed.

Not the gentile face we ha e seen knline, and exact details will not be found on the net, but the EUCOM CDR (as has the CENTCOM CDR) has gotten into a couple pretty good fights with the Pentagon in the past few months. Essentially nearly all Command CDR’s have been at least carefully pushing back against DC, and utilizing non-traditional relationships. Crazy politics going on behind the scenes. Biden is clueless.

HIMARS strikes destroyed the main bridges.

"destroyed" seems a bit, uh, enthusiastic. Damaged, I would say, unless there's proof the Ukies have actually knocked down sections of those big bridges?

Ukraine is winning! The battle has proven Russia is NO THREAT TO ANYONE. If Germany needs Russian Oil—they should just use a couple of divisions and seize all the oil they need. Russians have no stomach for war. But, Germany need not worry, Ukraine will do it for them. Putin woke a tiger in Ukraine with his foolish invasion and doomed Russia to a slow death. Poland could take Russia now—their best units better trained and armed than the best Russia has. They could roll all the way to Moscow. Russia is FINISHED as a Former Great Power. Good for the world!

“It doesn’t look as if the Russians have achieved the air superiority you would have thought they would have had.”

Yes, this is a lesson for us as well. A $50K SAM missile can shoot down a $50 million dollar plane. That is keeping the planes on the ground and turning this into an old fashioned artillery war.

“Offensives amounted to nothing more than PR stunts”

To you:

* Russia advances 3 yards - major Russian victory
* Ukraine reverses 3 months of Russia gains - PR stunt

That's a lie right there, as all sources, including official Ukrainian ones AND Russian, say otherwise.
