Gov. Ron DeSantis, Sen. Marco Rubio hold narrow leads in key Florida races, AARP poll says

Republican incumbents Gov. Ron DeSantis and Sen. Marco Rubio hold narrow leads over their Democratic opponents, according to a new poll that includes the state's coveted older voters.

DeSantis leads U.S. Rep. and former governor Charlie Crist 50%-47% in the gubernatorial race, and Rubio leads Congresswoman Val Demings 49%-47% in the U.S. Senate race, according to the AARP Florida poll released Wednesday. AARP Florida represents millions of older Floridians, a key demographic group that historically turns out in higher percentage numbers than younger voters.

DeSantis poll:DeSantis may be vulnerable on cost-of-living issues, but his culture war is working with voters

Demings vs. Rubio:Val Demings, Democrats target Sen. Marco Rubio's anti-abortion stance to knock him out in November

'Don't Say Gay' pushback:DeSantis targeted LGBTQ Floridians like no previous governor. Now they’re working to defeat him.

“Florida voters 50 and older are a critical voting demographic that all candidates are competing for in this midterm election,” said AARP Florida State Director Jeff Johnson in a statement releasing the poll results. “With the price of necessities like groceries, housing, and health care so high, Florida residents want their leaders to provide solutions to inflation and the rising cost of living.”

AARP commissioned the Republican firm Fabrizio Ward and Democratic firm Impact Research to do the poll in the last week of August. They interviewed 1,626 likely Florida voters. Five hundred were polled as a representative sample of all likely voters. An oversample of 550 were interviewed who were 50 or older. Also polled: 262 Hispanic voters and 314 Black voters who were also 50 years of age or older. An oversample of both groups was conducted.

Big issues for older voters in Florida: Affordable housing and health care On questions about important issues, a notable majority of Florida’s 50+ voters are more likely to back a candidate for Senate who not only wants to expand access to affordable long-term care but also supports a family caregiver tax credit.

These voters also prefer candidates who are supportive of protecting Social Security and Medicare from potential cuts and allowing Medicare to negotiate for lower prescription drug prices, a measure just passed by Congress and signed into law by the Biden administration as part of the Inflation Reduction Act.

"When you break this out by issue, these are bipartisan issues," said the pollsters. "These are not partisan, polarizing issues. And how often do we get to say that in today's political environment?"

Nine of 10 older Floridians are concerned about property insurance costs in the state, and a huge majority are concerned about affordable housing and utility rates, according to AARP.

The Leftist Florida Media cannot help themselves from reporting garbage polls.

My prediction is that DeSantis beats Crist by 700,000 votes on November 8.

Yep.
DeSantos doesn't hold a “narrow lead”. DeSantis will CRUSH Crist and have plenty of time to do drink Champagne same night.

If AARP says “narrow lead” then it’s probably at least 5-10 points in reality.

AARP fogies are poll dancers now? I think I’ll wait for the Cub Scouts of America poll to come out to see how Rubio and DeSantis are really doing.

AARP says a lot of things.

I’ve been seeing a lot of online ads from them touting the new prescription drug program included in the UNaffordable “Care” Act. And they’re taking credit for it.

Such utter BS.

They sampled more than 300 blacks out of 1,600. Uh…. not even close to the 15.5% demographic. Of course it’s going to skew toward the dems.

FIRST, it is EX-Rep Crist as he resigned his seat!

SECOND: AARP is a scum-sucking LEFT creature of the same insurance companies that it keeps trying to solicit its members to buy.

As for this US Senate contest, given that the GOP trailed party registration to the 'D'onkey Party by 300k in 2016 but low leads by 200k now, I tend to think bias here. There is ONE POLL that counts, an honest vote counted after 8 November!

If you are concerned about affordable housing, health care, the financial stability of Social Security and Medicare, the first thing you will do is vote for the party that vows to overload the system with benefits for illegal aliens.
