With its imposing red brick houses, neat gardens and red postbox, Baskerville Road in the borough of Wandsworth is a classic example of family residences in the more affluent areas of London.
But something is amiss. Just outside a house on the corner, which happens to be the former home of World War I-era prime minister David Lloyd George, is a new piece of infrastructure that would seem more suited to the perimeter of a maximum security prison or a detention camp.
It is a disturbingly anthropomorphic CCTV camera, with two lenses that resemble eyes and two other indeterminate features that serve as the nose and mouth; and it hangs from a pole ringed with spikes to protect its hardware from would-be thieves or vandals.
Indeed, two of these rather sinister-looking structures — which appear to double as street lamps — have been installed on Baskerville Road, where homes fetch up to £10 million.

Why have western people decided they no longer want to be left alone, or to be prosperous, or to be free? Why are they choosing oppression, suffering and famine? Because that’s what they’re going to get.
I dunno. This could be Big Brother in action. But I think it’s just an attempt by the state to pretend they’re doing something to fight crime.

I saw a post that’s gone now about folks in Colorado who’s thermostats did not work the other day, (not sure if it was true), but it got me to thinking that the gov can shut off your water, when the want, shut off your power, when they want, shut off our access to gasoline if they choose, stop you in the middle of the street for no reason, bust into your home with a no knock warrant whenever they like and folks were concerned that they couldn’t turn on the AC...it’s like maybe people will actually wake up here pretty soon.

Britain has had one of the highest if not the highest concentration of surveillance cameras in the world for decades. And a pretty big nannystate that bans everything it looks at. This is nothing new.
