Russia switches off Europe’s main gas line until sanctions are lifted

Russia’s gas supplies to Europe via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline will not resume in full until the “collective west” lifts sanctions against Moscow over its invasion of Ukraine, the Kremlin has said.

Dmitry Peskov, President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman, blamed EU, UK, and Canadian sanctions for Russia’s failure to deliver gas through the key pipeline, which delivers gas to Germany from St Petersburg via the Baltic sea.

“The problems pumping gas came about because of the sanctions western countries introduced against our country and several companies,” Peskov said, according to the Interfax news agency. “There are no other reasons that could have caused this pumping problem.”

Peskov’s comments were the most stark demand yet by the Kremlin that the EU roll back its sanctions in exchange for Russia resuming gas deliveries to the continent.

Putin is worried about empty stores and empty shelves in the Moscow and St Petersburg malls for Christmas. That’s why he panicked and pulled the trigger now, instead of in December. Christmas is going to suck for Russians and Putin knows it.

Of course they don’t bother much if it can afford to turn the tap. For Europe not so much.

It all started so rosy back in March. The smart set figured that they would make a big splash, throw down a bunch of sanctions they knew wouldn’t matter until the next winter - when surely this war would be over. It all sounded so sweet back then.

And then, reality. Europe is slowly realizing they have no choice. The high cost of imported LNG will crash their economy long term. There’s only one place they can get cheap energy, and they’ve picked a fight.

They have little choice, and the population is waking up.

While my sympathies lie with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, especially since they were the one invaded, I really see no ‘good guy’ between Putin & Zelenskyy.

That said, it seems to this old man that Putin's war, Europe's Green Energy and Joe Biden's macho sanctions may kill damn near as many Germans and other Europeans this winter as Hitler did.
At least in the first year or so of WW2.

Along with a seat at the Council of Europe, inclusion in Eurovision and European sports, massive business opportunities being handed to them on a plate for twenty years, you mean?

Europe has bent over forwards, never mind backwards, to bring Russia and other former USSR states in from the cold. Germany even went as far as making itself totally dependent on Russia for its energy security.

Much to the consternation of: Trump, the Baltics, the Brits post Salisbury... All of whom had no problem doing business with Russia but never really understood what motivated Putin.

If we’d known ten years ago what we know now - that Russia’s singular failure to thrive as a post-Soviet state is a completely self inflicted Russian home grown mess, and Putin’s deluded enough to blame everybody and everything but his own gangsterism for that - we’d understand that Putin’s Russia is now balls deep a gaslighting message of “let’s avenge our humiliation by the west hands and be great again.”

Its different to the message that the Nazis gaslit the German population with in the 1930s, in one respect. The west DID heap humiliation on Germany at the end of WW1. It didn’t do anything of the kind to Russia at the end of the Cold War.

Revanchists found the West’s attitude to them insulting and threatening because we were trying to talk them in from the cold without realising they have a hard-on for the cold.

Putin said the sanctions weren’t working. Obviously the sanctions are working and Putin is in a baby panic.

Biden gave Putin the green light to invade Ukraine with a “minor incursion”.

Hmmmmm...

TENS OF THOUSANDS Protest in Prague Against Skyrocketing Energy Prices and Globalism – Prime Minister Calls Them Pro-Russian Extremists. Czech leaders continue to export electricity as their own citizens pay the highest rate in all of EU and fall further into debt.

Sounds familiar, doesn't it...

So what, people like you are pro Biden. Around the world, anyone who dares stand against the Globalization and the LWO is called “pro Putin”. That is done to shut them up.

THIS is how we know why the west wanted a Ukraine war. You post about this topic only because you are one of them and support the destruction of sovereign states in the west in order to establish this Liberal World Order.

Western countries need to end the stupid Suicide Sanctions immediately.

I care more about ensuring the free flow of fuel, fertilizer, and food than I do about the moronic myth of Punishing Putin.
