Sept 2 (Reuters) - General Motors Co said Friday it will offer all of its estimated 2,000 U.S. Buick franchise dealers buyouts as it moves to make the brand all-electric by 2030 in the United States.

The Wall Street Journal reported the news earlier, quoting Global Buick chief Duncan Aldred who is set to discuss the plans with dealers Friday in a virtual meeting. He noted shifting to EVs will require significant investments by Buick dealers.

"So if they want to exit the Buick franchise, then we will give them monetary assistance to do so," Aldred told the newspaper.

Unless they are sitting on some technology they are not speaking about (very much doubtful), there is no way the EV move will be successful. IMHO, this is just another way to kill our economy, force people into cities and impoverish the masses.

You got it.

Now that I think of it my sister had some kind of factory custom , I think, Skylark (or that body style) that absolutely screamed. No one who drove it could believe how fast it was. Ragtop.

"I will believe that electric cars are viable when I start to see auto races with them."

I didn't think about it until I read your statement, but EV's in drag races would actually be pretty good. (not the Rupal version, the Don Garlits version)

Talking to a buddy who works at GM yesterday.

All new projects are basically on hold right now. For the last two months he has had literally nothing to do.

A 2020 Buick Regal TourX station wagon is a terrific car. Although it is really a German Opel with Buick badging. Built like an Audi/MB/BMW with a Buick price tag.

GM sold Opel and ended the rebranding deal in 2020.

I liked the Cutlass Supreme thought.

I bought a 2001 Buick Century Custom with all the good features and in mint condition a few months ago.

That car has the most comfortable seats and drives like I am on a cloud. Better than the newer car I have.

I think The Dodge decision will be a disaster. The people who buy those cars are not EV candidates they want a Hemi.

Why would sane businessmen think all electric is a plan?

The government is dictating the menu.

Option 1, go all or mostly all electric. Option 2, meet 70 mpg CAFE standards.

Sane men act differently when a crazy man has the gun. The only solace is that the other manufacturers are subject to the same crazy.

Yes that is correct the upcoming CAFE standards will be impossible to meet. The Government is in effect regulating ICE cars out of existence.

Since GM and Ford are all in on this rediculous EV thing, perhaps we should just start buying Toyotas.

Wonder how GM/Ford would react to a large market share loss?

CA telling residents this week NOT to charge the batteries on their EV’s while the CA Air Resources Board puts into place prohibition of building gas powered engines. Is there a screen/shield that goes over the top of CA to prevent logical thoughts from penetrating brains? Have people still in CA given up ever getting through to those fools in Sacramento?

How does Newsome think he’s going to overcome something like this when he runs for president? Boy - this country has a lot of work to do - HARD WORK - to counteract all this foolishness. Are people listening?

A smart dealer would round up a ton of spare parts and subcontract a top notch machinist to make more, then offer overnight shipping to repair shops.

Personally, you couldn’t pay me to own an EV, and I’m one of those people who gets carsick from them just by being a passenger.
