Sept 2 (Reuters) - General Motors Co said Friday it will offer all of its estimated 2,000 U.S. Buick franchise dealers buyouts as it moves to make the brand all-electric by 2030 in the United States.
The Wall Street Journal reported the news earlier, quoting Global Buick chief Duncan Aldred who is set to discuss the plans with dealers Friday in a virtual meeting. He noted shifting to EVs will require significant investments by Buick dealers.
"So if they want to exit the Buick franchise, then we will give them monetary assistance to do so," Aldred told the newspaper.

Buick The Pansy Man’s Drive
I have always thought of Buick as an old person’s brand, just like the now-defunct Oldsmobile.
I drove an Enclave a few years ago as a rental. Great old man’s ride. I drive an F150 though.
I have a 1979 Buick station wagon with 221,000 miles ++ on it. Daily driver—when I do go anywhere...
I bought my 1979 Buick used -—41 years ago.
We got old together
Looks like the end of the for Buick. Sad another company destroyed by the US Government and bad management. I always had a soft spot for Buicks but it has been disappearing for years.
Of course Oldsmobile was an old person’s car. It is right there in the name!
I understand Buick is very popular in China of all places.
They should take the deal and run....The EV market isn’t going to be a piece of cake. Cut their losses now....
These days.
So GM has decided Buick will be all electric by the end of this decade????
Calif.givernir governor Newsom has decided by 2035, the only new cars allowed to be sold are electric. A number of other states and some countries in Europe are also targeting 2035 for conversion to electric cars.
Is the electric grid going to be able to accommodate all these electric cars? Are the powers that be asking these sorts of questuins as we move forward to all electric cars?
Are we going to have ICE races and EV races, or will they compete together? A bit like the tranny problem in water sports (pun definitely tongue in cheek).
So GM has unlimited funds to “Buy out” dealers who know better than to go “All in” on EV’s?
Who is really paying for this?
The taxpayers I bet.
Buick used to be one of the more innovative brands, OHV Strait-8, the famous “Nail Head” V8, all Aluminum 215 V8, Buick V6 and Turbo v6.
There is already something called “Formula E”.
I have never made any effort to watch or track it in any way.
Now that NASCAR has gone woke, you can be sure they'll promote EV "racing", and you can use your preferred pronouns at NASCAR now, too.
Yes, because the emperor had one.
Used ICE cars will be expensive. Sort of like what we are already seeing right now. So people will maintain what they have. Sort of like Cuba. Rich liberals will purchase EVs. They have access to solar power at home. Things are not that much different from now compared to 2010. So why would things be any better in 2035? We should be building at least 20 new nuclear plants right now but we are not doing that.
My uncle had a 1971 Buick Skylark wagon with the vista roof. It had over 250k and still running good when he traded it in on an Estate Wagon.
