When I was in school in the early seventies it was common to see pickups in the parking lot with shotguns in rifle racks.
My mother, born in 1917 rode a horse to school. The boys would leave their rifle in a saddle holster all day and then hunt meat on the way home. If they shot something the family had meat that night.
How times change.

That sounds like the (early) life and times of Audie Murphy. Only Murph’s family couldn’t afford the horse.

When I was in High School, there was hardly a vehicle in the parking lot that DIDN’T have a .22 or a shotgun, extra ammo and some sort of knife in it, LOL!
Kids these days. Such amateurs.
However - we never EVER would’ve though of bringing them into the school. We needed them (and our fishing poles & ‘assault’ tackle boxes!) to hunt or fish after school and before we needed to be home for chores and supper.
Those two hours of any kids’ day were HEAVEN! We certainly weren’t going to screw it up by shooting or stabbing one another, LOL!

I kept a rifle in my trunk in school and took a large WWII bayonet to elementary class for show and tell.

Could also be that the student was always talking about shooting up the place.....hmmm....just like the DOOM game...someone who knew the student...talked...

Yep. We carried them in a rack behind the seat. They could
easily be seen thru the back window panel they were held in.
Lots of options these days....
Lots of variations

Like you said, can’t compare the groups....one parent boys, no father image, tv or internet ALL day, no criminal responsibility, no right or wrong philosophy, no sanctity of life.....many kids have no moorings at all or greatly perverted...

We use to go shooting in the woods across the parking lot after school. No one cared.

Back in the day when you had your own desk. Now days, kids copy each other at their big round tables.
