Government forces in Ukraine are trying to seize the initiative from Russian troops before the arrival of winter. A counter-offensive is already under way in the south and the Ukrainians are now preparing to expand that in the east to take back land lost in Donbas and around Kharkiv in the north. Quentin Sommerville and camera-journalist Darren Conway have been given exclusive access to a unit of Ukrainian troops.
The air is thick with the smell of burning sunflowers, and the pat-pat-pat of Russian cluster bombs can be heard landing across the fields, setting fire to a crop which stands, heads bowed, awaiting a harvest that's unlikely to come.
A self-propelled gun roars through the field, its caterpillar tracks tearing up the rich Donbas earth. The National Guard hold this ground in Ukraine's east - territory that Vladimir Putin has claimed as central to his war aims. It will be taken "step-by-step", he said. But for now, Russian progress has been reduced to a crawl.
And hanging heavy in the air, among the smoke and dust, is something else - expectation. Here in Donbas, and further north on the outskirts of Kharkiv, Ukraine's second city, the country's forces are braced for a counter-offensive.
I recently left army positions in the south, around Kherson. It is the only city that Russian forces have captured west of the strategically important Dnipro River. Those same troops are now engaged in battle, supporting forces who have broken through Russian lines in at least three places, as part of a long-planned counter-offensive in the south. Strict Ukrainian reporting restrictions are in place as the operation is underway.

These are all defensive positions but the success around Kherson leads many to think that more offensives are planned here and further north.

The UK offensive now 3 days old appears to have been stopped and even pushed back. The RU strategy at this point isn’t taking territory or cities, it’s forcing the Ukrainian army to stay under artillery bombardment until they break.
I doubt Zelenskyy has been in the Ukraine since February. He’s too valuable as a globalist fund raiser.
That use of 'UK' makes it look as if Britain were somehow behind this attack.

The treachery of ZPP raid when they asked for a “day of silence” to bring the UN commission for inspection is beyond belief. This is your signature redcoat tactic, dishonesty and falling on their own petard.

There is no objective to ruin the country and the enemy is particularly treacherous, using schools and hospitals as bases, preventing evacuation of the peaceful people.

Russian troops inflicted a massive fire strike, rocket artillery and aircraft on the mechanized groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine thrown to the southern bank of the Ingulets through a pontoon crossing in Andreevka .

The AFU clown show in southern Ukraine scales new heights.
In arguably the most embarrassing debacle of the war yet for Ukraine, they apparently permitted themselves to attempt an MI6-designed and directed commando operation to seize the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.
Of the 64 “commandos”, at least 47 are now dead, a few wounded, and a dozen trapped with no means of escape, all seven of their boats having been destroyed.
The entire undertaking has been an unmitigated amateurish disaster.
Apparently Russian intelligence was fully aware of their plans and had monitored the debutante commandos from the time they left Poland to pursue their ostensibly glorious operation – allegedly advocated by the corpulent Boris Johnson himself in his recent visit to Kiev.
As for the long-anticipated “Kherson Counter-offensive”, it appears to be losing steam at a rapid pace.
In the past 24 hours, another 31 tanks, 30 armored vehicles, 8 pickups with machine guns, and 350 soldiers have been destroyed.
In addition to the ongoing massacre taking place near Kherson, another platoon of M-777 howitzers has been destroyed, 44 HIMARS rockets intercepted, and 2 US-made HARMS missiles intercepted in another futile attack on the Antonovsky bridge.
It has become increasingly obvious that, despite having, on paper, a “formidable” force arrayed in the Kherson region, the Ukrainian troops are essentially incapable of anything approaching competent combat-effectiveness.
This war needs to end soon.
