Take as war propaganda if you will that Ukraine claims to breaking through Russian defenses in their costly bid to reclaim Kherson. But even English-language Russian newspapers are acknowledging that gun battles were raging in Kherson city yesterday.

Russian politicians blamed the reports of battles in Ukraine on mere "saboteurs and spies" and snipers, with a local Russian-installed official claiming “Everything is under control. They were all killed,” But that seems to contradict the footage of intense fighting and billowing smoke, presented on Russian news.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s office reported heavy fighting in “almost the entire territory” of the Kherson region Tuesday, saying the long-anticipated counteroffensive marked “the beginning of the de-occupation of Kherson region.”
Russia has previously portrayed the counter-offensive into the oblast around Kherson as a catastrophic failure for Ukraine. Actual troops within the city of Kherson would mean that Ukrainians have breached several lines of defense that had stretched for miles beyond Kherson.
Spin also includes the notion that Russian had simply been lightly defending Kherson. This directly contradicts a Moscow Times report just two weeks earlier saying that a counter-offensive was “unlikely” because the city was so well-defended and further reinforcements would be so strong as to ward off any notion of retaking the region.
Building up to the counter-offensive, Ukrainian forces had isolated the city by destroying the bridges which link it to the rest of Russian-occupied Ukraine.

HERSON OFFENSIVE, DAY 2: UKRAINIANS WAIT FOR AN ORDER TO MOVE AND ATTACK

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Whatever it is, it isn’t some kind of breakthrough advance by some powerful force. Just some meaningless front line skirmish.
For nothing.
Don’t
Care
.
.
In the Battle of Kherson. Down the hatch!
Quite possibly, Ukrainian partisans rose up inside the city while the offensive started on the front lines not far away. Russians aren’t popular in Kherson.
How do you know any such thing?
You don’t.
The tank looks abandoned. Notice the openings are Open.
The Moscow Times is an anti Russia/Putin publication located nowhere near Moscow. They are in the Netherlands and have no sources, named or otherwise in Moscow.
“Quite possibly, Ukrainian partisans rose up inside the city while the offensive started on the front lines”
Like the Tet Offensive in Vietnam.
Reportedly, the head of the Russian Occupation Administration in Kherson has moved to a hotel in Voronezh, Russia, and his deputy, who was the acting head, was shot dead in the street.
I don’t believe that actual conservatives would fall so hard for Russian propaganda.
It’s out on a training or proving ground, probably in Eastern Russia.
Farther down in the article it states Russian forces in Kherson number about 20,000 military, and that it could take “months” to dislodge them. This per the Moscow Times website following the link and reading further.
Any offensive must go thru the artillery meat grinder. Additionally, other sources state Russia has 16,000 paratroopers at the ready, along with (forgive me on the number, either) either 200 or 300 helos, and either 200 or 300 fighter AC, in addition to transport for the para’s (which could be either helo’s or ground transport). I surmise that Russia’s quick reaction forces are rather large, e.g., one or two Russia divisions and separate brigades/regiments.
All the talk of brides blow, Russians cut off, while accurate do not paint an accurate “resupply” picture, however, it may well hobble Russia forces.
We should be getting casuality reports from the Ukraine. Usually, it takes a 3-1 advantage in attacking ground forces to dislodged soldiers in makeshift defensive positions such as foxholes and buildings in back and forth fluid combat operations. To dislodge dug in defensive positions, it is a slow process that requires pounding defensive points and breaking the morale and resupply.
I doubt the Ukraine will have swift gains on a large scale. This is literally a meat grinder war.
PS - one of the Ukraine soldiers the Moscow Times interviewed was said to be an infantryman in his 60’s. This is a slow bleed with no winners in the trenches.
Grow up neocon. It’s pretty obvious that the Ukes haven’t launched some kind of massive offensive thrust. Show a map of this big armored thrust that has punched deep.
It doesn’t exist, not even in propaganda.
Why are you Putin lovers, frauds every one of you, so angry and quick to call names to anyone who points out that you don’t know a damn thing.
Everything is so obvious to you and you know that every news report is a lie or you know that Russia is winning every single engagement.
And everyone who disagrees with you is a neocon or a paid Soros agent, I suspect that most of you are about 60 to 70 years old but you act more like 14 to 17 years old.
in contrast, what really happened?

During the past week, Ukraine has inflicted a major operational blow against the Russian military, recapturing a swath of territory in eastern Ukraine including the city of Izyum in its most significant military success since the Battle of Kyiv in March, according to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW). In a first since the war began, Russia acknowledged its defeat in the region.
Ukraine’s counteroffensive, which began on September 6, took the Kremlin by surprise, both in terms of speed and the dynamism of advances with large pockets in Kharkiv oblast being reclaimed. According to the British defence ministry, in recent days, Ukrainian forces have captured territory at least twice the size of London.
