This is stupid. Of course it refers to a black female dog. I am pretty sure there were no people of color in Linlithgow, West Lothian, 350 years ago.
Back in 1968, on a family visit to the Eisenhower Library in Abilene, Kansas, I convinced my dad we should visit another Abilene attraction: the Greyhound Hall of Fame. All of these famous greyhounds had their parents listed on their plaques: the sire and the bitch. I was both embarrassed and amused, but I was also eleven. At eleven, I learned a non-offensive use of the word.
How many black people lived in Scotland 700 years ago? That’s when the local legend began, a legend having to do with a black female greyhound. No racism, no misogyny, just a loyal dog.
If the wokelings don’t like the name of the pub, they can simply refrain from patronizing the place. Just stay out and everyone will be happier. Everyone, that is, except those miserable people who can never be happy as long as anyone disagrees with them in any trivial way.

The first thing I thought of when seeing the headline was, “they named a pub after a BLACK DOG”?
I guess in some peoples minds EVERYTHING IS RACIST!
Shall we eliminate the word “black” from ALL languages?
Maybe change the name the the Nasty African-American Woman.
Or just change it to “Michelle Obama’s Place”.
I think they are mick jagger and his hand mates.
Maybe they should just rename the dog. The name from THE DAM BUSTERS might be nice.
Or maybe the cat’s name in THE RATS IN THE WALLS by Lovecraft.
