Californians are being advised not to charge their electric cars during certain hours as a 90-degree heatwave rolls in.
The move comes just weeks after the California Air Resources Board voted to ban gas-powered vehicles by 2035.
The California Independent System Operator (ISO) has called for residents across the state to 'reduce' energy usage between 4 and 9pm 'when the system is the most stressed because demand for electricity remains high.'
Starting on Wednesday and running until Tuesday, residents are being asked to not charge their electric vehicles between those hours, set their thermostats at 78 degrees or higher, avoid using large appliances, and turn off unnecessary lights.
'Lowering electricity use during that time will ease [the] strain on the system, and prevent more drastic measures, including rotating power outages,' the bulletin said.
California has officially become the first in the world to enforce a ban on the sale of new gasoline cars by 2035, following a public hearing on Thursday that ended with the California Air Resources Board voting to approve the policy.

Even so I am an optimist by nature I have some serious doubt as I have a feeling the US is heading down the same path as Argentina where poor politics, corruption and graft has gotten the best of them and this cycle is not easily broken, as it is part of a mind set which took years to develop. The chains of habit are too weak to be felt until they become too strong to be broken!
For curiosity sake the current rate of inflation in Argentina is around 70 % and shows no sign of slowing, in other words they have not gotten their act together yet and neither has the US.
Even if we elect a president who may have the right ideas for attempting to get this country back onto the right track it only may slow the descent on to the trash heap of history of a once great country. So far there has been no known great country in history which has escaped this cycle.
Not magic, we just need our ranchers to dramatically increase the size of our unicorn herds while making sure a substantial portion of our soybean crops are diverted to them for their feed (soybeans cause the most flatulence in unicorns as supported by several university studies).

Texas went through some hell last year over the energy grid. Don’t remember the details but they shut down the power near Austin area.
