he Monkees singer Micky Dolenz is suing the FBI in an effort to "obtain any records" the agency has on the hit band and its members.
A lawsuit filed by Dolenz, the last surviving member of the band, noted the performer had "exhausted all necessary required administrative remedies" after submitting a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to receive the files from the FBI.
Portions of an FBI file on the "I'm a Believer" singers were released in 2011 and included references to anti-Vietnam War rhetoric and "subliminal messages" depicted on a screen at a 1967 Monkees concert that an informant claimed featured "left wing innovations of a political nature."

Jeeze, they even went after Monkees?
“Hey, Hey we’re the Monkees. People say we monkey around...”
The 1967 date is one of interest:!
Portions of an FBI file on the “I’m a Believer” singers were released in 2011 and included references to anti-Vietnam War rhetoric and “subliminal messages” depicted on a screen at a 1967 Monkees concert that an informant claimed featured “left wing innovations of a political nature.”
I’m not too busy singing
to sue the F B I.
Oh yeah, I forgot about that... they should have thrown them in San Quentin for that.
Well played.
Is this a Joke?
“I’m A Believer” was the first original J6 “Insurrection”.
Sounds like a Daydream Believer if he thinks the FBI will ever cough anything up
No, at the time John Denver and John Lennon also were under investigation.
John Denver, and John Lennon, but not John F’n Kerry?
One of my earliest memories is my older sisters walking home from the Woolworths with a newly purchased Monkees Album. They were so excited. They loved Davy Jones
Now the FBI has even ruined that for me!!
I heard Mr. Hoover wanted some enlarged pictures of two members of the Starland Vocal Band.
They should have put in jail without bail awaiting trial like J6 prisoners but the feds hadn’t cooked up that scheme yet in their day.
Having dirt on someone makes the extortion part work so much easier.
Until the last few years my initial reaction would be to support in theory the notion of monitoring 60’s artists for ‘subversive material’.
With the end game now obvious I believe every step in this direction was orchestrated for power and control, not protection of America. What a paradigm shift. The bad guys and good guys exchanged hats.
