Yes, Mitch McConnell Would Rather Lose The Senate Than His Leadership Status
The Federalist ^ | August 30,2022 | BY: SHAWN FLEETWOOD

Whether Republican voters like to admit it, McConnell and the GOP establishment have looked down on them — and continue to do so — with utter disdain. Such is the reason why any Republican candidate not specifically chosen by party leadership must be both delegitimized and destroyed. No matter the cost, the establishment simply cannot allow the base of the party to disrupt its decades-long hold on power.

At the end of the day, McConnell would rather have another two years of a Democrat-controlled Senate where he remains party leader than a Republican-controlled one where he’s not. This November, voters must wrestle back power not just from Democrats, but from swamp creatures like McConnell as well, lest our country continue to pay the price.

A lot of people would rather be the dictator of a craphole than a private citizen in a land that recognizes general freedoms and liberties.

Remember Mitch McConnell is the leader of the Republicans in the Senate because the majority of GOP Senators have elected him. This tells you what the majority of GOP Senators value and it isn’t the lives and liberty of the voters.

This is what the U.S. has become: Many people — especially in, but not limited to, government — place keeping their job (or their power or their prestige) well above doing their job. A recipe for disaster, if you ask me.

I can’t imagine that there will he enough votes in the GOP Senate to replace him. I just can’t see it happening.

Losing the Senate would not be a good vote of confidence for his leadership status.

He only needs a majority of the caucus to keep that post, unlike Speaker over in the House. So, say the GOP got 54 seats, he would only need 28 Senators to vote for him.

Regardless, Trump’s MAGA campaign organization have voluntarily allowed McConnell and the donor class to hold all of the cards by sitting on their hands and keeping their wallets closed. No reason for this to be happening. No reason to have any underfunded candidates. They have voluntarily chosen for this to be the case.

We will not get new leadership until we change the membership.

As long as we keep re-electing Thune, Barrasso, Blunt, Ernst, Scott, Scott, Lee, Crapo, Grassley, Shelby, Murkowski, Sullivan, Boozman, Rubio, Risch, Young, Braun, Moran, Cassidy, Collins, Hyde-Smith, Daines, Fischer, Sasse, Burr, Tillis, Hoeven, Cramer, Portman, Inhofe, Lankford, Toomey, Grahamnesty, Rounds, Cornyn, Romney, Capito, Lummis then they will keep Mitch in his position.

Why would Mitch lose his leadership role if the Republicans add one or two Senators?

Repubs have 50 Senators now, meaning Mitch only needs 26 votes in the Repub caucus to be Minority Leader. If Republicans have 51 Senators, Mitch only needs the same 26 votes to be Majority Leader. At worst he would need 27 votes if there are 52 or 53 Republican Senators.

I would think Mitch would rather be Majority Leader than Minority Leader (who wouldn’t?).

The very best case scenario is that the GOP gets 54 seats after this next election. McConnell would need only 28 of them to maintain his leadership post. Is he really in any danger of having less than 28 Senators supporting him? Losing an election is more of a catalyst for calling for new leadership than is winning.
