AJO, Ariz. - A toddler and an infant were hospitalized after they were found abandoned by a Border Patrol agent in the southern Arizona desert.
The incident happened on Aug. 25 when an Ajo Border Patrol agent was informed by a group of arrested migrants that two children were traveling alone west of the Lukeville Port of Entry on the Organ Pipe Cactus Monument, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said.
The Border Patrol agent immediately went to the area and found a 4-month-old child face down and unresponsive. An 18 month old was found crying nearby.
Emergency medical technicians were called to the scene by the agent, who began administering first aid and revived the 4 month old.
EMTs arrived at the scene and transported the children to the Abrazo West Hospital before being discharged back into Border Patrol custody.
"Yesterday smugglers left two young children—an infant and a toddler— in the Sonoran Desert to die," said Tucson Sector Border Patrol Chief John Modlin. "This is not just another example of smugglers exploiting migrants for money. This is cruelty. And it is gut-wrenching. I commend our agents for their quick response to this dreadful incident and to every incident in which migrant lives are at stake."
The children were later returned to Border Patrol officials, who were trying to urgently place them with the Office of Refugee Resettlement, which oversees the care of migrant children picked up in the U.S. without family.
It was not immediately clear if the smugglers blamed for abandoning the children were among those arrested. Authorities did not release any details about the children, including their genders, what country they came from and the identities of their parents or guardians.

It begs the question, how many other children have been abandoned but never found?
And the Democrats continue to look the other way.

EVERY Bush League Republican singing the siren song of amnesty shares the blame for this.
I seriously doubt the Border Patrol agent abandoned them. Maybe the editor should study up on where to put commas.
Passive voice makes it confusing as well.
I could almost believe that sentence structure was deliberately confusing.
Rive them to the border and hand them off to the nearest alcalde.

Lots of human remains are found in the desert down there. Those CPB agents deserve special commendation for the rescue. And if they catch the “coyotes” smugglers, they should throw the book at them.
I stumbled over that one, and assumed it should have said, “...were hospitalized after a Border Patrol agent found them abandoned...” Writers should know about passive vs. active sentence construction. But they don’t these days.
No, the Border Patrol should leave the smugglers’ remains in the desert where they catch them. Vultures have to eat too.
Agree about a commendation for the rescue, wherever the kids end up.

I disagree. Mayor Richard Daley had the solution to molotov cocktail throwers at the democrat/marxist/kkk convention in Chicago a few years back.
His order was to “shoot to kill any arsonist and shoot to kill or maim anyone caught looting any stores in our city”.
A coyote is worse than an arsonist as he routinely kills babies and rapes children. I say an order should be issued to Border Patrol and Sheriff’s departments to “shoot to kill” any coyote found on US soil.
I’m surprised the real coyotes didn’t get them.
Why waste a book?
In the early 80s I was on the crews that cleared the bombing ranges of unexploded bombs near Ajo AZ and there was a couple of instances we came across the remains of people that didn’t make it across the desert.
That is a very bad desert to cross anytime but especially this time of the year. One day we got a radio call from the Gila Bend AFA to see if we were still on the range and doing OK as the Range 4 Control just reported a temperature of 123 degrees. We let them know that we were still vertical and were pressing on. Just another day in paradise.
I hope the kids will be OK. What kind of a person does this?
These children aren’t being brought here to ‘pick the crops’... they’re going straight to whore houses for perverts to rape and torture.
Why aren’t reporters ‘following’ some of these children to see what happens to them? And I don’t mean where top editor’s ‘news packets’ (put out by democrat War Rooms) gives the names of children and ‘an aunt’ to cover. I mean a real story.
The trouble is that coyotes are often indistinguishable from those being smuggled, until apprehended and questioned. And even then they are often just flunkies, like drug mules.
At one point, they hired full blood Apaches carrying rifles, to patrol on foot looking for mules. They did not have handcuffs. For smugglers to cross paths with them was not appreciably different than it would have been in the 1840s.
We hear time and time again it is just good family men looking for a job crossing over.
That sounds like a tough job to do.
