China to discourage abortions to boost low birth rate

China will discourage abortions and take steps to make fertility treatment more accessible as part of efforts to boost one of the world's lowest birth rates, its National Health Authority said on Tuesday.

Support measures from taxation and insurance to education and housing would be improved and implemented, with local governments encouraged to boost infant care services and family friendly workplaces, according to guidelines published on the authority's website.

The authority said it would carry out reproductive health promotion to enhance public awareness while "preventing unintended pregnancy and reducing abortions that are not medically necessary."

China's fertility rate of 1.16 in 2021 was far below the 2.1 OECD standard for a stable population and among the lowest in the world.

The guidelines come as China's uncompromising "zero-COVID" policy of curbing outbreaks with strict controls on people's lives may have caused profound damage on their desire to have children, demographers say.

Its way too late, you evil CCP social engineers.

Your debt-based property bubble has already convinced young people they can’t afford children, and your political “covid zero” policy has destroyed marriages and family formation and dropped the birth rate to historical lows

They won’t be able to pull out unless they induce women to put having babies ahead of career.

They could pull out by encouraging young women to have babies and having grandparents help raise them.

Regardless, their economy will have a major downturn as women exit the workforce. It was hordes of women entering the workforce decades ago that jump started their economy.

A couple decades ago, in a year, they had nearly 30 million births. As recently as 2016, it was around 18 million. Last year? 10 million.

yes, that one child policy worked all too well. Now here we are.

And, there is a sex ratio imbalance, because so many people under the one child policy, wanted that one child to be a boy.

Look for China to take draconian measures. As a totalitarian society, they were able to enforce the one child policy. This may be different, in that, they will then have to try to compel or force women to have more children than they might otherwise want to have.

Looks like the old farts have figured it out.
As big of a pain in the ass they are, they are worth the effort.
Wait till China starts a war, then they will really figure it out.
No kids, no old age comfort.

China will manipulate the social credit score system they use, to encourage more births, and discourage birth control.

Though with the free market reforms in recent decades, I’ve heard the communist party doesn’t have such strong control over people’s lives as they once did. So see what happens.

These policies of encouragement and discouragement become cultural, and are
difficult to just swich on and off. Big boat to turn around.

Yep, it created a real mess. I can only imagine what kind of solution the ChiComs will come up with to fix the low birth rate problem.

There was a few years not too long ago China reported 23 million/yr abortions. I know it’s gone down in recent years.

Since 1980 there’s been 1,666,266,683. That’s more children murdered than people killed in all wars and health epidemics in all the world through all recorded history combined — in a little over 40 years.

This is the real life playout of “We’ve always been at war with Eurasia” to “We’ve always been at war with Eastasia”.

They went from “our problem is over population” to “our problem is under population” in a heartbeat.

Both China and Russia are in a population free fall right now and in ten years it’ll be horrific.

But, the nation that takes the prize for the largest population drop in recorded history is Iran. The Mullahs know they are on borrowed time.

I’m afraid most people don’t realize how large that number is.
Sure we can say it, and read it - but to understand it is something not many can fathom.

This world can never accuse The Lord of being impetuous with His Judgement.
