Russia Burning Off Natural Gas Which Would Have Gone to Germany – Report
Newsweek ^ | 8/26/22 | Isabel van Brugen

Posted on 08/26/2022 7:22:46 PM PDT by UMCRevMom@aol.com

Russia is burning off significant quantities of natural gas worth millions of dollars daily, which would have gone to Germany through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline.

Experts at Norway-based Rystad Energy found that a new liquified natural gas (LNG) facility northwest of St. Petersburg is burning an estimated $10 million worth of gas every day.

The LNG plant is located close to a compressor station at the start of the Nord Stream 1 pipeline, which transports gas to Germany under the sea via a Baltic Sea pipeline. Gazprom, the Russian energy giant, announced in July that it would reduce natural gas shipments through the pipeline to 20 percent of capacity.

That decision came in the wake of European Union sanctions over Russian President Vladimir Putin's war against Ukraine, although Moscow has pinned the move on technical issues. Germany has said the move was politically motivated and aimed at ramping up energy costs.

Rystad Energy experts say satellite monitoring of radiant heat levels suggests the practice of burning natural gas has been ongoing since July 11, and that 4.34 million cubic meters of gas are burned daily.

Finnish citizens across the border first noticed something was going on at the facility when they saw a large flame on the horizon earlier this summer.

Experts said while burning off gas is a common practice at processing plants, the scale at which gas is being burned at the LNG plant is unprecedented. Burning off gas is commonly done for either technical or safety reasons—but not on the scale seen by Rystad Energy.

"I've never seen an LNG plant flare so much," Dr. Jessica McCarty, an expert on satellite data from Miami University in Ohio. "Starting around June we saw this huge peak, and it just didn't go away. It's stayed very anomalously high."

As things get chillier in Germany and Europe in the months ahead the need to blame Russia will increase otherwise people in Western Europe will blame their own leaders for antagonizing Russia.

I guess this is just the beginning of that line of propaganda.

TTF Netherlands LNG spot is at 97 bucks per mmBtu for December 2022 - ten times the Henry Hub price in the US.

Take that, Putin!!

The more Russia burns, the higher the price for LNG, of which they export a significant amount (about $350M daily, at today’s prices).

Why would they waste the gas. You would think that they would not produce as much during this time and save it for when things get better. Makes no sense

No worries!

Habeck has assured us that Steiner's flotilla of KeinKriegsMarine LNG tankers is just over the horizon, sailing in from Qatar...

TTF Netherlands dropped a quarter today, below 97 bucks.

Bobby Habeck might be able to get him an iced Starbucks today.

Putin is an evil piece of dog shit. Sorry for being so blunt. I am sure our gas prices will go up because we’re going to ship LNG to Europe.

If you’re an investor I wonder what the best LNG stocks to own would be?
Perhaps also investing in companies that only takers that will ship the LNG to Europe.

Do you know if those are publicly traded companies that own the tankers shipping the natural gas.

They're gonna do the hydrogen thingee - in about ten years or so.

Oaf Doltz and Bobby Habeck can burn pictures of the Canadian hydrogen plants to keep warm this winter.

153 million cubic feet PER DAY!

That would heat a few homes in the winter.

They are burning the gas in St Petersburg. The gas comes froms central Russia, in pipelines that are over 4X longer than the trans Alaska pipeline. These Pipelines have to keep moving in the winter or they will freeze. All of the pipes from the individual wells that feed the pipeline, also have to keep pumping, or they will freeze.

If the Gas isn't flowing out of Russia, they have to burn it because they can't store any more of it, and if it ever stops flowing west, especially in winter, Russia may have a tough time starting the flow back up.

“They laughed when Trump tried to warn them.”

True. However, U.S. politicians “laughed” ignoring the out sourcing of American industry because of the unfair tariff
practice. Unions had a strangle hold on U.S. businesses & Congress further killed the ‘Golden Goose’ of American production through unfair tariff competition with imported foreign goods, i.e. automobiles.

Tariffs have historically been a tool for governments to collect revenues, but they are also a way for governments to try to protect domestic producers.

Now, the global economy many products bought by consumers include parts from other countries or were assembled overseas. As a result, now tariffs also affect consumers of products believed to be made in the thanks to “deep state” 7th Floor D.C. ex-politicians [lobbyist].

Tariffs create market distortions harmful to domestic consumers and a damaging trade war.

* Note control of U.S. ports by China as well as China creating their industries in U.S., example read solar energy. Also, China purchase of U.S. assets, i.e. farmland.
Currently, the only control of China is their own greed!

President Trump as part of his economic policy, which was known as “America First.” This revolved around American protectionism, which typically means more tariffs.

TRUMP POLICY
The Trump administration imposed tariffs on solar panels and washing machines. Robert Lighthizer, then U.S. Trade Representative, announced that after consulting with the Trade Policy Committee and the U.S. International Trade Commission, Trump decided “increased foreign imports of washers and solar cells and modules are a substantial cause of serious injury to domestic manufacturers.”
