Tell them to kiss grandma and grandpa goodbye as they may be dead of hypothermia by spring.

If they think heating is heating is expensive now. Wait until January 2023. Bua as they are sitting there freezing, they can say to themselver over and over until it warms them up. “81 million people voted for this”.

When I was stationed in England 1973-1976 we had NO heat whatsoever in the bedroom, the loo, or the bathroom. Still, we have a daughter who was born while we lived there, ha, ha.

Wearing lots of clothes is traditionally the British way to cope with the lack of central heat.

Also, in the UK and many areas in N. California, Oregone, Washington and ????:

We call it layering. Start the morning layers of necessary clothing and take the layers off in the warm afternoons/evenings, in those areas cited above:

Even in the summers it can be in the low 50’s in the morning and mid to high 80’s in late afternoon. Yesterday, we had a low of 56 and a high of 86. No heat and AC for about 30 minutes in late afternoon.

We have 2 retired docs in our block, one who grew up and practiced in the SF area, and the other in the Boston area.

Both set their thermostats to 70 degrees, 24 hours a day. We just got our PG&E bills. Ours was $110 and theirs were above $500. Our homes are basically the same size and get the same sun exposure. They have been warned that their winter bills could exceed $1000/month.

Wait a minute, I thought it was so hot in the UK that the headwaters of the Thames had dried up?

Now its so cold that the kids have to wear extra layers?

Are you referring to Al Gore’s “Inconvenient Truth”?

It’s a fictional drama — and that’s not to say “Inconvenient Truth” is any different.

On the other hand, in southeast Pennsylvania in the dead of winter, kids go out in shorts, Crocs and no jacket. Their parents allow this.
