A US lawmaker on the Senate Commerce and Armed Services committees arrived in Taiwan on Thursday (Aug 25) on the third visit by a US dignitary this month, defying pressure from Beijing to halt the trips.

Senator Marsha Blackburn arrived in Taiwan's capital Taipei on board a US military aircraft, live television footage from the downtown Songshan Airport showed. She was welcomed on the airport tarmac by Douglas Hsu, director general of Taiwan's foreign affairs ministry, Blackburn's office said.

"Taiwan is our strongest partner in the Indo-Pacific Region. Regular high-level visits to Taipei are long-standing US policy," Blackburn said in a statement. "I will not be bullied by Communist China into turning my back on the island."

Something is going on... Taiwan... we have seriously been compromised by all sides it seems. China, Ukraine, Russia, it seems everyone has their hooks into our politicians except the voter...no wonder the elections are so corrupted.

It is starting to sound like they are baiting the CCP. If we had a president with respect it would be one thing, but with * in charge WW 3 is pending.

Why do these morons keep going to Taiwan? Is it to cover the side trips to Thailand and the children?

Google “Senator Blackburn” and “Taiwan”. Notice the absence of party label in the headlines. She’s a “US Senator”, not a “Republican Senator”.

This is opening up a window into the level of corruption with China that has been escalated with our politicians. Support of Taiwan should be a no-brainer. When President Nixon opened the door to China, it didn’t mean our door to steal us blind and to compromise our security.

This is about computer chips.

Biden signed US government funding of computer chips a major Taiwan industry.

At the beginning of this week Republican Governor Eric Holcomb of Indiana and also Davos (World Economic Forum) was in Taiwan with computer chip makers based on Taiwan.

Republican Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee getting the business for Tennessee as well.

Blackburn has a position paper to ban crt. She has always been conservative. Tennessee needs to know what she is doing there…. In a mask no less.

With Democrats showing “courage” Republicans don’t want to be left behind. Thus Marsha Blackburn, R-TN.

To be clear I don’t oppose her visit at all. The US doesn’t cower when our foreign enemies (China, Russia..) try to intimidate us.

Taiwan still requires masks, generally. As do most East Asian countries.
I am currently in Manila, masks are required outdoors as well as all public spaces in all cities (large municipalities). Outside of city limits they are optional.

This is an improvement, believe it or not. Formerly we were required to use plastic face shields as well as masks in metropolitan Manila.

Will they respond by bombarding Quemoy and Matsu as they did around 1957 when Eisenhower visited?

respect

no respect for oppressive Commie thugs!

if China wants "respect", it can start by behaving like a civilized country and NOT threatening its neighbors

.Gov refuses to guard our border from illegal aliens—but wants to protect Taiwan’s border.

That is the definition of insanity.

According to .gov a Chinese invasion of Taiwan would just be a friendly visit from “migrants”.

;-)
