This is what would happen if Russia cuts off the gas supply to Europe entirely, according to Morgan Stanley

European countries have been trying to increase their gas reserves ahead of the winter, following the reduction of Russian gas supply by around 80% over the last two years.

Analysts from Morgan Stanley say while the bulk of the decline in European gas supply from the Nord Stream 1 pipeline has already occurred, the remaining 20% is an “important swing factor in any supply/demand modelling.”

The forecasting suggests available gas supply is set to drop another 11% in the next gas year — which runs 12 months from October. They highlighted that supply from other regions such as Norway, the U.K. or North Africa is “broadly maxed out” and questioned whether demand can fall quickly enough.

European gas already up 328% THIS YEAR and expected to crest just above 400%...this year.

US gas has only about doubled. And 70% of US electricity comes from gas...driving electricity prices up 48% nationwide. Some areas 70-100%.

All brought to you by America's and Free Republic's neoconservatives and Democrats...but I repeat myself.

I don’t know who this Morgan Stanley guy is. But Europe has world-famous energy expert Greta Thunberg advising them. So maybe Mr. Stanley should just shut up and go away.

(Just kidding. Europe is on track for a world of hurt. The US, too.)

The Russian cut-off was inevitable as the Europeans were stupid enough to put their heads in the noose, although the effects are spread very unevenly around Europe. Poland has already diversified its gas supplies a lot and is ramping up coal production, although they may have to cut Germany off the electrical grid as German demand has already brought the Polish grid close to collapse a couple of times. Not that many Poles will be shedding tears over that.

No kidding. If they have a cold winter (especially if they have a long calm and cloudy spell when it’s cold so the wind and solar are not producing), it will get really bad.

I am afraid that there will be many deaths to the cold, especially among the poor elderly.

Yes, those who put Ukrainian well being above American well being are overjoyed.

But the rest of us know that they hate America and Americans.

“TTF Netherlands futures (LNG): December 2022 is at 88 bucks per mmBtu this morning.”

Per BTU content, mmBTU (million BTU), is about 7 gallons of crude oil, so we’re looking at over $12/gallon for the crude oil equivalent price.

That comes out to about $500 per barrel. To put it in perspective, the US price for crude right now is about $90/barrel, and the highest that crude has EVER been is about $140/barrel*.

Also, Russia does sell LNG on the spot market, meaning at these prices - roughly the equivalent of 700,000 barrels per day or about $120B per year, so Russia, again, thanks the West for the HUGE economic boost they’ve been given.

*for those interested, the reason that bidding for LNG is now $500/barrel whereas crude is under $100/barrel is that many (probably most) applications using Natural Gas cannot be quickly replaced by crude. And even if it were possible, Crude does not burn nearly as clean as gas, so Greta won’t permit the replacement, at least in Europe.

It takes years to get a new Nuke plant online... so the sooner we start building some the better off we’ll be. Same with Europe.

Inconceivable! Global warming has rendered that risk moot!

...and just one large volcano blowing its stack will result in a 30% or so reduction in their ‘renewable’ power for several years.

But Europe deserves what they’re getting. They’re FAR BETTER educated than Americans, so they’ve CHOSEN this future...it was THEIR CHOICE.

Global commodities ALWAYS equalize in price over time.

US prices will soon start the race to catch up with Europe.

That’s when real Americans will start hunting the neocons with the intent of hanging them by the neck until dead.

Trump warned them repeatedly.

And we have failed to learn a critical lesson. More important than being “green”… far more important, is achieving energy independence. If you can’t achieve energy independence, as some countries can’t, then you have to diversify your energy supplies so that no one supplier has his thumb on your jugular.

As a side note to that, Trump also pushed hard to move our supply chain out of China, for reasons that should be clear now.
