WASHINGTON — California on Thursday is expected to put into effect its sweeping plan to prohibit the sale of new gasoline-powered cars by 2035, a groundbreaking move that could have major effects on the effort to fight climate change and accelerate a global transition toward electric vehicles.
“This is huge,” said Margo Oge, an electric vehicles expert who headed the Environmental Protection Agency’s transportation emissions program under Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama. “California will now be the only government in the world that mandates zero-emission vehicles. It is unique.”
The rule, issued by the California Air Resources Board, will require that 100 percent of all new cars sold in the state by 2035 be free of the fossil fuel emissions chiefly responsible for warming the planet, up from 12 percent today. It sets interim targets requiring that 35 percent of new passenger vehicles sold in the state by 2026 produce zero emissions. That would climb to 68 percent by 2030.
The restrictions are important because not only is California the largest auto market in the United States, but more than a dozen other states typically follow California’s lead when setting their own auto emissions standards.
“The climate crisis is solvable if we focus on the big, bold steps necessary to stem the tide of carbon pollution,” Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, said in a statement.

here will be no need for the number of gas stations currently operating.

That’s what I am worried about. Maybe through some miracle we will get a sensible state government.
CA just intends to out source to other states their coal and other fossil fuel electric generation.
Is that yours? Which engine does it have?
I hope for that as well but I heard something about pigs flying or a cold snap in the underworld having to happen first.
Funny how a few elected and appointed official can make one of the prettiest places on earth so dysfunctional that residents are moving out of the state in record numbers.
Engine is the original straight 6 cylinder, 300 cubic inches.
Has high compression head, 4 barrel carburetor, tuned exhaust header....and the supercharger.
Supercharger, battery both mounted at the back over the axle for better weight distribution.
Lube oil for the supercharger comes from the oil pressure sensor port....waste oil goes back in the crank case.
Test shows 500HP.

If I won the lottery I would get it done :-)
I’m planning a stroker build on an injected 460. My goal is lots of torque for my F350.
Ride sailboats with wheels. When you’ve got a contrary wind you’ll have to tack, and when it’s blowing abeam you’ll have to have the wife and kids leaning out on the weather side for counterweight while you try to steer despite the heeling to leeward, but there won’t be any carbon emissions. You can also have solar auxiliary power, except on overcast days. Just like those little calculators. LA traffic, you are entering a brave new world.
Trucks can be run like clipper ships, with three masts and a crew to handle the work aloft. The hold will account for the ballast. You could even recreate the golden triangle, with sex slaves and fentinol picked up at the Mexico border traded for cannabis, booze and meth in California, and you swap that for food in the heartland, which you then peddle in the East for high-tech electronics, which you then sell to Mexico so they can give them over to China, who can then reverse engineer and steal all the tech, while there picking up more sex slaves and fentinol.
