In Australia’s push to follow other developed nations’ transition to electric vehicles, one bank in the country said it will stop giving out loans for new gas or diesel vehicles beginning in 2025, including hybrids.
According to Sasha Courville, Bank Australia’s chief impact officer, the date was chosen “because the change to electric vehicles needs to happen quickly.”
"We think that the responsible thing for us to do next, is to ensure that our vehicle lending doesn’t lock our customers in to higher carbon emissions and increasingly expensive running costs in the years ahead," Courville said in a statement on Friday.
"Ultimately, our announcement today is the beginning of a conversation with our customers and a signal to the wider market that if you’re considering buying a new car, you should think seriously about an electric vehicle – both for its impact on the climate and for its lifetime cost savings."
The announcement comes as the government in Australia said it was “significantly behind the pack when it comes to electric vehicles.”

Aussies, take your money out of that bank. Bankrupt it.
But that is exactly what they are locking their customers into.
smh
What do Americans think ESG is? Political agenda driven commerce regulations. All consumer choices will be restricted to those approved by the state. That’s what regulatory power is used for by leftists.
Australia has some very large, very empty undeveloped areas. Charging an EV there isn’t going to happen.
The US is the same. If you’re in some rural areas, you really need a reliable range and a quick and easy way to refuel.
If a government starts blocking financial support for ICE cars, it’s basically stating an intention to depopulate rural areas. Squeeze everybody into an urban core where they can be controlled.
I don’t need a loan to buy a car...........
Agreed, and they’re playing us by forcing attention to things like the FBI raid. We could fill every elected office from local ecology annex to the presidency with Republican conservatives, but it’ll never matter a hill of beans if we don’t focus on what’s really going on. We’re professional window dressers.
A Bank that doesn’t give loans ,LOL good luck
Someone's paying attention. Quick. Find out who this ClearCase_Guy is...
That’s not the issue here
The West is careening towards the first Global Civil War ...
Creation of the “Mad Max” car culture.
Car companies will love this! Currently estimated that by 2030 EVs will be 28% of new cars. Let’s double that to 56%, what will car companies do to sell the other 42%? Where will the car companies find enough materials to build 100% EVs by 2030? Where will they find enough materials to meet 2025 for Australia?
I can get a Kia, with a USB plug.
They, the Global Elitists, will force you into EVs WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT.
Look for this to start happening in American financial services, maybe even CODIFIED INTO LAW!
Even if you keep your gas /diesel vehicles it will not do you any good. The fuel will become scarce and so expensive only the GOVERNMENT and the WEALTHY ELITISTS can afford it.........................
Yeah, after all, we know that folks who were true science geniuses chose to go into banking instead. Avoid that bank like the plague - because sooner or later it’ll burn down. Probably from the electric cars parked adjacent that caught fire...or perhaps do to various and sundry other causes.
My last vehicle (my LAST) was paid cash. Now I need financing to fill it up. 😲😂✌
It is past time to defund the companies that subscribe to the woke mentality. Even if it makes it inconvenient or even more expensive.
It seems one of china’s strategy to undermine the west is to finance western politicians around the world who push climate change hysteria and electric vehicles.
Someone mentioned we’ll be like cuba with old cars. At least their old cars aren’t computer laden as mist newer ones here are.
