White House officials have been weighing -- and leaning toward -- the cancellation of up to $10,000 in student loan debt per borrower tied to an income threshold, CNN has learned.

According to multiple sources familiar with the discussions, the plan is designed to offer the forgiveness to individuals who earn less than $125,000 per year.

In addition to that baseline of student loan debt forgiveness for individuals who fall under a certain income level, administration officials have also recently discussed the possibility of additional forgiveness for specific subsets of the population, according to sources familiar with internal discussions in the administration.

This will be sexist and racist because women will benefit more than men, and whites more than blacks. Not that the MSM will label it this way.

I would be OK with this if they got the money from the schools.

I don’t want to pay for their damn worthless degrees.

Not worthless. They can get you high-paying jobs in government, universities, NGOs, and even the military, intelligence community, and many private sector gigs (e.g., Chief Diversity Officer; Diversity, Inclusion & Equity consultant or trainer, etc.)

Jesus Christ. First of all, anyone stupid enough to borrow $10,000 for a basket weaving degree should be eliminated from the gene pool.

Secondly, there is no secondly.

You’re exactly right. Every university has their diversity outreach bureaucracy and all manner of minority programs. Then there are campus Title IX offices and Human Resources gets into the “inclusion” biz too.

Are they all going to get a 1099 for this income? What does the IRS and Congress have to say?

Government handing out student loans was a big mistake from the beginning. I have about 3,000 dollars left to pay on my 40,000 in student loans I took out 25 years ago. I was never a good fit for university education, and it would have been better for me to of realize it earlier and that might have happened if I did not have student loan money coming in. When you are young you don’t understand how crimpling debt can be when that degree does not happen and most 18–24-year Old’s are not considering that they won’t be earning the degree in the end whether it be laziness or other reasons.

Meanwhile we have hundreds of thousands living on the streets. We forgive the rich, send bombs to bomb Russia making the MIC rich, politicians get kickbacks and they are ignored for insider trading. “Rome” is falling.

“My kid busted his tail to pay off his student debt in one year. Oh, he also majored in a field that paid a salary that allowed him to do so.”

Well done. That’s how it should be done.

Basket weaving actually generates a product...I am guessing these degrees are often PoliSci, Gender studies, International Studies, etc.

Just prep for government make-work jobs where paper is shuffled...

This is an insult to those who pay their debts. Congress recklessly spends to buy votes and increase the debt. College students recklessly spend to buy degees which cannot repay the debt and expect a taxpayer bailout.

Folks who handle student loans have no access to income info and the irs can’t release info. So how will they confirm your income is under 125k?
