‘We realized that there’s no way we can return’: Russia’s best and brightest are leaving the country in record numbers. 6 young Russians explain why they left

Three months ago, Sonya, a 25-year-old who works at a major mobile gaming company and moonlights as a tutor, made one of the toughest decisions of her life: She left Russia.

She had an old but cozy communal apartment with her boyfriend and two other roommates in Moscow’s city center, a tight-knit group of friends, and spent several days a week taking classes at a local dance academy—her lifelong passion.

“It’s my home. My family, friends are there. My whole life. How can you possibly abandon all these things?" she told Fortune.

But like countless other young educated Russians, Sonya, who asked that only her first name be used, packed her bags and fled the country after Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24.

I’ve worked with many at IBM. I met one who was a decent person the rest were arrogant and incompetent and some were outright bullies (which was easily rectified). They spend most of their time walking the halls and talking to India on their phones.

Let’s not malign Russia. Many upstanding American citizens are voluntarily leaving the “land of the free”. It is called reverse immigration.

And yet, the Ukrainian military is getting decimated more and more daily. ZelenskyyIdiot has managed to survive 10+ internal assassination attempts - much love for that comedian, yep. Ukraine economy in shambles. Ukraine steadily running low on tanks, planes, artillery, manpower, ammunition. Ukraine spends 8 years building the best defensive line in Europe only to have the Russians wreck it in weeks. I could go on but yeah, the end result is and will be the same: Ukraine is losing the war/conflict that the West and the US created, instigated and abetted.

“A couple of my favorite Russian Vloggers have left, for places like Georgia.”

I have heard Russia-Americans comparing notes about how their friends and relatives are getting out.

It seems mostly that they go to some third country first, just to get out from Russia, then travel onward.

I have never seen in my lifetime of 64 years as an adult, such systematic destruction of one country by another. All because erotic dancer Zelensky had delusions of granduer to become a NATO member.

3.8 million out of 144.1 million is 2.6% of Russia's population. Those who can afford to leave are more likely to be educated or have marketable skills. That is a significant labor and brain drain in just 5 months. Add up the military losses, the long term effects on the Russia economy, because short term manipulations come back to bite in the long term no matter what anyone says, and the best and brightest getting out.

Look at the long term, which means not the next few days on Twitter or Telegram. Don't pretend how Russia taking a few farmhouses or hectares of farmland is a big deal. Day by day Russia's position is getting more precarious, while Ukraine is getting stronger.

Whenever a HIMARs blows up a command post or ammunition depot, Russian state TV says the HIMARs were wiped out in response. How many times has that happened? Its is called "vranyo". Russia lies, lies badly, and does not care what anyone thinks about it.

Russia can not, is not, and will not win in the long term.

Sorry, but I have less respect for IT people than almost any other category of workers in STEM fields.

and yet the “decimated” Ukrainian Army is able to hold Russia’s advance to less than 100 miles from the border where they started

makes the Russian military look REALLY pathetic, doesn’t it?

they can’t even get more than 100 miles against a “decimated” army!

I’ll take the educated Russians. We have a great Russian engineer that joined our company. She’s been here for 20 years. Her son just enlisted in the USMC. She’s a great engineer and loves the US.

She was glad to put Russia in her rear views and was lucky to emigrate

“spare us your Russian paranoia again

Russia invaded another sovereign country, starting this unnecessary war

Russia is no victim, Russia is the warmonger”

Oh yeah...and the “Russians” were behind the Neocon/fascist coup in Ukraine in 2014, which set all of this in motion. Does Trudeau’s government pay you to post this trash?

If you bothered to look, there’s a nice photo of your Trudope standing with Andriy Parubiy smiling. It reminds me of all the California politicians who had pictures taken with Jim Jones when he was a political force in Northern Ca.

Paranoia? That’s the best you can do? Here’s a little test for you and the rest of the Tards:

1. Who promised the Russians NATO would not move an inch eastward and when? Why was that promise given to Russia?
2. Which President first broke that promise, and what did George Kennan and other Russian experts have to say about it? What other presidents broke that promise?
3. Who financed and engineered the first Ukrainian coup?
4. Who financed and engineered the second Ukrainian coup?
Who became the Speaker of the Rada and what party did he found? What other jobs in the second coup government did he hold? What other cabinet positions were held by others who generally shared his views? What was done with the NeoNazi militias beginning in 2014?
5. Who has trained and equipped the UFA since 2014, which, among other things made the coup government’s 8 year war against ethnic Russians in the east and south of Ukraine possible? What does this have to do with the operational tempo of the SMO?
6. Where was the UFA massing forces prior to February 2022 and why?
7. Who provides command and control operations for the UFA?
8. Who supports the Zelensky regime financially, with weapons, and massive propaganda?
9. Who are the Kagans and ISW?
10. What are the Neocons’ geopolitical objectives?
11. Who invaded Iraq, Panama, and Grenada and bombed the Balkans and Libya?

Given your expertise, answering should be a mere bagatelle.

For extra credit, name the Neocons’ favorite living “philosopher”.

Russian soldiers are still barbarians. Have not changed a bit since WWII.

The “Russians” sent to their graveyard in Ukraine by KGB Vlad are your typical bus station drunks, mercs and Buryat villagers. The Ukrainian KIA, OTOH, come from all walks of life including many professionals. I find that quite instructive.

Virtually all the new residents of my town, about 10% since 2010, are Asians, Chinese and Indians. And very fine people, though a little fuzzy on the notions or freedom and representative democracy.
