….Anchor Roop Raj then asked Dixon about whether she would support terminating the pregnancy of a 14-year-old rape victim.

Dixon replied that she had spoken to people who were the children of rape victims and that "the bond that those two people made and the fact that out of that tragedy there was healing through that baby, it's something that we don't think about."

"We assume that that story is someone who was taken from the front yard, then returned," she told Raj.

"Those voices—the babies of rape victims—that have come forward are very powerful when you hear their story and what the truth is behind that. It's very hard to not stand up for those people," she said.

As of Saturday morning, the video of the interview from Friday had been viewed nearly half a million times. Newsweek has contacted Planned Parenthood of Michigan for comment…

DeSantis and his media team might be on to something by refusing to speak to the corporate media at all.

It’s a tough calculus though if you don’t have the name recognition that DeSantis has. She had to know that Newsweek would twist her words (which they did), but she also needs to get some fraction of the votes of the independent, low-information voters, and name recognition is huge with that segment of the electorate.

My guess is that she’s toast this cycle, but it’s a long game, and there will be other races that will benefit from the work done on this race.

The position that abortion should be allowed anytime for any reason is equally as toxic but Democrat candidates won't be pressed on the issue by the media.

Roe being overturned didn't outlaw abortion - what it did was leave the decisions up to 'the people' of each state.

Using 'the people' is how I'd thread the needle - let 'the people' vote on the issue. Rather than our representatives voting on it each state should put it on the ballot with 6 options.(or 12 or whatever) Option one: Life begins at conception. 2. Life begins at quickening (15 to 16 weeks) 3. All abortions will be outlawed. 4 All abortions will be legal. 5 Abortions will only be legal if the life of the mother is involved or in cases of rape or incest. 6. Abortion should not be allowed after: first month, second month third month fourth month ect etc etc..

The only other question on the ballot would be: Should the outcome of this election apply to the whole state or to each county as the citizens of that county voted?

In short - trust the people.

In the old days we had some counties that were 'dry' and others where beer could be bought but only after noon on a Sunday... etc etc. There's no consensus on this issue - allow laws to reflect that reality.

Keep an eye on what Richard Baris has to say aka @peoples_punit on this. Find him on Twitter, Gettr for his podcast etc.

His research on rape/incest and it's rarity in surveys is running against the flow of the dominant media etc. Witmer is reviled by many here in MI, yet IMHO Tutor's stance will turn off the over-educated suburbanites to loosely paraphrase Baris.

I don't think this is a done deal. One of my tea party contacts who is well known really likes the Lt Gov., That carries a lot of weight for me.

Again Baris is the GOAT, if you are not listening to his podcast you are missing the cutting edge stuff...

Sorry, that's not a winning issue for us. Roe v. Wade was repealed by votes for Republicans, and it can easily be reinstated by votes for Democrats. We won't stay in office by expending money and energy to advance policies not shared by a majority of voters, such as denying abortions to women whose pregnancies were the result of rape or incest.

I agree but we don’t get everything at once and I think this particular issue about rape or incest is one of those rare instances where I agree with the squishes

It does affect less ardent republican voters and gives fodder to our foes even though morally you are correct

The correct Answer to stupid questions like this is “would you be OK to abortion ban if it allowed exception for rape and incest incest?”

They will never answer that question because they want abortion under any conditions at any time up until the moment of birth and sometimes afterwards.
