True that. A friend stopped to help a stranded couple who then pulled a gun on him. Luckily, he just lost an old truck, could have been much worse.
I expect most would not and many would pay with their lives with that decision. The ones who did make the decision to fire made the right decision IMHO if they were absolutely forced to pull the trigger. In this case, they got the 5 year old to drop the weapon which is certainly the preferred outcome
Children in war are now valid target since they are saddled with bombs and made to walk into enemy soldiers. I think women and children were always valid targets in war and found it strange that they should, by default, not be considered legitimate targets by law.

Violent perps do not move you to another location so they can do good things to you.
The question is: What was she going to do with the couple?
The car was on the road, inviting investigation.
It had to be moved.
In my opinion, she was going get them away from the road, then kill them.
Then she could go back to the car and move it so the location of the murder would be masked.
As she had their cell phones, the cell tracking data would mostly follow the car.

Yes. I remember when I was a child, my father was driving our family somewhere and we saw some blacks beating up a white guy. I said "Dad! Do something to make them stop!". My dad looked at me and my sisters and kept driving. When I got older I understood your obligation is to first protect your family from harm.
Nowadays most people could call 911 driving past. Before that, unless you had a cb, nope.
Back then, 1950's into 1960's, my dad had a Rambler station wagon. Very primitive - no radio, no air conditioning, no seat belts, nothing. All he cared about is having it take us from point A to point B. It wasn't until the 1990's that I began using a CB radio in my cars, and then in the late 1990's that I had a cell phone. In the old days one had to search for a public pay phone. Youngsters are so spoiled now. (Well, I admit I like modern conveniences... but remember the old times.)
