Yep I hate the term REMF.
I don’t remember the story exactly. My grandpa was going to eat with a buddy he shared a tent with (don’t know what size, I’m guessing not a pup tent as they set up semi-permanent camps) and he forgot something and went back to the tent. A zero dropped a bomb Square on the mess hall and killed every guy sitting in it. My grandpa was like 10 minutes from death and would have if he did not forget to do something.

My father was an engineer in the Pacific after a full tour in Europe (w/ zero R&R, of course).
His unit was commandeered by MacArthur and the passing Filipinos let the US soldiers know they were constructing a driveway on MacArthur’s private property. Dad spoke Spanish (altho his was Argentinian) and understood enough of the taunts to complain to his Lt. He earned time in the brig for that. Also ended up with a lifetime of jungle rot on his hands.

Well, multiply 0.1% by the number of light arms shots taken at warplanes.
That said, in any one instance it is a lot more likely the plane suffered some sort of mechanical or electrical failure.

The more interesting story is last week Russia shot down its own SU34M.
I’ve never seen the Su34M in person, but there are only 10 in existence. Well, 9 now. Most updated ground attack plane they have.
I suspect it got its IFF beacon jammed or a spoofed, which is VERY bad news for the Russian Air Force.
And she’s anxious to send our young people to die for Ukraine, and takes delight in war and death? I don’t care what religion she is. I have a son who was in the military for four years.
